Position: Sr. Human Resources Generalist
Location: Rome, GA (onsite)
FLSA: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Sr. Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive HR support for the Rome, GA facility and assisting other company locations as needed. This position serves as a highly visible and accessible HR resource for employees and leaders, supporting the day-to-day administration of payroll, benefits, employee relations, retention, compliance, safety, and workforce engagement initiatives. The HR Generalist is expected to maintain a regular presence on the production floor during core business hours, build relationships across all shifts, and proactively address employee concerns to support retention and a positive work environment. This role is accountable for ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws, responding to employee and management inquiries within 24 business hours, providing meaningful workforce metrics to plant leadership, and serving as a backup resource for critical HR functions across the organization, including unionized operations as needed.
Essential ResponsibilitiesPayroll
  • Assist the HR Administrator by reviewing and approving UKG hours, correcting exceptions, processing wage assignments, and ensuring payroll accuracy and timeliness.
  • Enter and maintain new hire and employee data within UKG with a high level of accuracy.
  • Reconcile weekly uniform invoices and submit to Accounts Payable for processing.
  • Process payroll-related changes in UKG on a daily basis.
  • Provide backup payroll support during absences, vacations, and peak business periods to ensure uninterrupted service.

Benefits Administration
  • Support annual benefits open enrollment, including data input into UKG and assisting with employee presentations and communication.
  • Process new hire enrollments and employee benefit changes in UKG accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Assist employees with FMLA and leave requests through the Absence Management vendor, track leaves, and manage claims in The Hartford portal.
  • Serve as back-up contact for FMLA and disability claims across all company locations as needed.
  • Provide backup benefits and leave administration support for other locations to ensure continuity of service.

Safety and Environmental
  • Participate in monthly Safety Committee meetings, maintain minutes, and track safety incentive programs.
  • Maintain accident logs and related documentation; ensure timely updates to the accident tracking spreadsheet.
  • Manage Workers' Compensation claims for the Rome facility and office employees in partnership with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager, ensuring timely claim administration, effective case management, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

General HR Administration
  • Support daily HR operations while ensuring compliance with company policies, employment laws, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential personnel records in accordance with legal and company requirements.
  • Serve as a visible HR presence during core business hours and maintain regular interaction with employees across all shifts to strengthen employee relations and workforce engagement.
  • Respond to employee and management questions, concerns, and requests within 24 business hours whenever possible.
  • Manage termination paperwork, including unemployment claims, and report disputed claims to the Sr. HR Director.
  • Conduct hourly employee exit interviews, document findings, identify turnover trends, and communicate recommendations to leadership to support retention efforts.
  • Conduct stay interviews and partner with supervisors to proactively address retention concerns and reduce employee turnover.
  • Lead workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, corrective actions, and terminations while ensuring consistency, fairness, and legal compliance.
  • Track and administer employee length-of-service awards and order milestone and retirement gifts.
  • Assist with annual wellness and health incentive initiatives.
  • Distribute, copy, post, and relay corporate communications, required notices, policy updates, and HR information to employees in a timely manner.
  • Maintain labor law postings, company communications, bulletin boards, and required workplace notices to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Coordinate employee engagement activities, including luncheons, picnics, recognition events, and other morale-building initiatives.
  • Maintain and update HR Department Standard Work Procedures in collaboration with the Sr. HR Director.
  • Compile and provide workforce metrics and reports to the Plant Manager, including turnover, headcount, attendance, leave activity, and other key HR indicators.
  • Serve as a backup HR resource for other facilities and support unionized locations as needed, including employee relations and policy administration support.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of related HR experience required.
  • Manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting hourly workforces and employee relations initiatives preferred.
  • Exposure to union environments or labor relations preferred.
  • SHRM-CP certification preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
