Description

Position Overview  

Innovation At Work, Inc. is seeking professional and reliable Switchboard Operators to support 24/7 communication operations at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY. This role is responsible for managing high-volume incoming calls, routing communications accurately, and supporting critical hospital communication functions including emergency notifications and overhead paging.

Available Shifts (24/7 Coverage Required)  

Weekday Shifts (Monday - Friday):  

- Day Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM  

- Evening Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM  

- Overnight Shift: 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM  


Weekend & Holiday Shifts:  

- Day Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM  

- Evening Shift: 3:00 PM -11:00 PM  

- Overnight Shift: 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM  

Schedules will be assigned based on operational needs. Candidates must be flexible to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.

 Key Responsibilities  

- Operate multi-line telephone switchboard systems in a high-volume environment  

- Answer and route incoming calls to appropriate departments, staff, and on-call personnel  

- Initiate overhead paging announcements and emergency code communications  

- Maintain accurate logs of calls, messages, and critical communications  

- Provide information and assistance to patients, visitors, and staff in a professional manner  

- Monitor and respond to urgent and routine communication requests  

- Ensure timely and accurate message delivery across departments  

- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and Privacy Act requirements

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications  

- High School Diploma or equivalent  

- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a call center, switchboard, or customer service role  

- Ability to handle high call volumes in a fast-paced environment  

- Strong verbal communication and listening skills  

- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, call logging systems)  

- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively Â
