The main functions involve record keeping and follow-up contacts with parents and other agencies. This position is responsible for performing routine clerical duties in the School Health Office, many involving use of a computer. Incumbent assists the School Nurse in vision and hearing screening, height and weight surveys and the filing of accident reports. Daily work is performed under the general supervision of the Nurse on site. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:- Assists in arranging schedules of School Physicians and health service specialists;
- Assists in the preparation of reports resulting from emergencies or accidents;
- Assists in the orderly transfer of health records for pupils entering, leaving, or transferring to another school.
- Maintains accurate health records for all students;
- Cleans and checks on first-aid supplies;
- Assists with school health examinations;
- Conducts height and weight surveys;
- Assists in the follow-up with parents in cases of accidents, emergencies and students requiring corrective care;
- Provides first-aid treatment to injured or ill students and employees.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:- Good knowledge of health sanitation and personal hygiene;
- Good knowledge of basic first-aid techniques;
- Ability to administer first-aid methods and practices;
- Ability to keep records and compose reports;
- Ability to collate material alphabetically and/or numerically;
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:- Currently has or must be willing to receive training and certification in American Red Cross basic life support or comparable certification.
