THIS POSITION IS PRN
Observe and perform, under the supervision of a pharmacist with a minimum of 1 years' experience, a variety of pharmacy tasks. This may include counseling, compounding, preparing, verifying, and dispensing medications in accordance with federal and state regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Observe and participate, under the supervision of a pharmacist:
  • Selects, compounds, dispenses medications and other therapeutic agents as prescribed by a provider in compliance with standards, regulations, and age appropriate. Responsible for oversight of preparation, verification, and dispensing.
  • Perform prospective patient profile/ chart review. Assess drug allergies, side effects, interactions, incompatibilities, contraindications, medication therapy, labs, patient diagnosis, and medical conditions.
  • Performs medication reconciliation and counseling.
  • Compounds and prepares sterile and non-sterile hazardous and non-hazardous products for patient administration. Determines proper preparation, packaging, handling, and storage to maintain and product sterility and stability.
  • Verifies medications are in date prior to dispensing.
  • Administer immunizations, vaccines, and emergency medications per licensure, scope of practice, and regulations.
  • Promptly report system/ equipment issues and help remediate when they arise to facilitate resolution.
  • Determine refill quantity, pull, and stock automated dispensing machines (ADC's) with products that are in date.
  • Pull and assess primary literature to determine pharmaceutical care.
  • Perform unit dose distribution, intravenous preparation, attend clinical rounds, and respond to emergency situations.
  • Provide pharmacotherapy recommendations to providers and nursing.
  • Actively participate in pharmacy and hospital committees in areas such as infection control, policy and procedure, drug formulary, finance, safety, and compliance.
  • Completes pharmacy and organizational projects to enhance patient care.
  • Performs and assesses med room inspections.
  • Maintain control and non-control substance medication records and inventories according to federal and state regulations.
  • Participate in department orientation, training and quality assurance programs.
  • Administer immunizations, vaccines, and emergency medications per licensure, scope of practice, and regulations.
  • Perform pharmacy technician and clerk functions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Current enrollment, in good standing, in a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at an accredited school or graduation from an accredited US PharmD program less than 1 year
  • Current and active, unrestricted Arizona Pharmacist Intern license
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire
  • Licensed to administer immunizations, vaccines, and emergency medications, preferred
