How much do h 2b jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 6, 2026, the average hourly pay for h 2b in the United States is $20.64, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.35 and $23.56 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an H-2B job?

An H-2B job is a temporary non-agricultural work visa in the United States that allows foreign workers to fill seasonal, intermittent, or one-time need jobs in industries such as hospitality, landscaping, and construction. Workers typically need a job offer from a U.S. employer, and the employer must obtain a labor certification to demonstrate that hiring foreign workers will not negatively impact U.S. workers. The visa generally allows for a stay of up to one year, with possible extensions.

What jobs qualify for a H-2B visa?

H-2B visas are available for temporary non-agricultural jobs such as hospitality, landscaping, construction, seafood processing, and seasonal tourism roles. These jobs typically require specific skills or training and are limited to seasonal or peak periods when U.S. employers demonstrate a need for temporary foreign workers.

What is the 3 year rule for H-2B?

The 3-year rule for H-2B visa holders states that an individual cannot work in the H-2B program for more than three years within a four-year period. After reaching this limit, they must leave the U.S. for at least one year before applying for another H-2B visa, ensuring compliance with program regulations and preventing extended employment periods without interruption.

What are the typical work schedules and conditions for H-2B jobs?

H-2B jobs often follow variable schedules that depend on the employer and the specific industry, with many positions requiring availability for early mornings, late evenings, weekends, or overtime, especially during peak business seasons. Work is frequently performed outdoors or in active environments such as hotels, resorts, landscaping sites, or construction areas, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions or physical tasks. Teams tend to be diverse, bringing together workers from different backgrounds, and teamwork is essential to meet daily goals efficiently. Adapting to changing assignments or locations is common, and safety protocols are usually emphasized to ensure well-being on the job. Understanding these conditions can help you decide if the role matches your preferences and strengths.

How much do H-2B workers get paid?

H-2B workers are typically paid at least the prevailing wage for their job and location, as determined by the Department of Labor. Wages can vary depending on the industry, job duties, and geographic area, but employers must ensure fair compensation and compliance with wage laws.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the H 2B position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an H-2B role, which encompasses temporary non-agricultural positions such as hospitality, landscaping, or construction, candidates must have relevant physical abilities, a willingness to learn quickly, and, depending on the specific job, proficiency in basic operational or manual tasks. Many employers require experience with tools or equipment specific to the industry, while formal certifications are sometimes needed for roles like equipment operators or specialized laborers. Strong work ethic, reliability, and effective communication are key soft skills that help individuals excel in team settings. These qualities are crucial to meeting employer expectations and ensuring safe, productive work environments under the demands of seasonal or project-driven employment.
