Faculty Associate School Guidance Counselor (AP27-010)

What You Will Do

• The School Guidance Counselor is responsible for establishing and maintaining the school's counseling and scheduling needs. They will assist with the creation of the master schedule, scheduling students for the regular school year, credit recovery and summer school based on transcript evaluations. The School Guidance Counselor will create and distribute schedules to students and families for students enrolled in courses for the school year and summer sessions. They will maintain and enter data into the student data management system. The School Guidance Counselor will assist with student transfers in and/or out of the school. They will review the transcripts and ensure students are scheduled in the correct classes. They will also assist the secretary with completing transfers for students exiting the school. The School Guidance Counselor will assist students with personal/social/academic development. They will help students set realistic short/long term goals. The School Counselor will conduct transcript reviews and credit checks for graduation requirements with students. The School Guidance Counselor will assists students in grades 9 -12, assist with SEL needs, advise them academically and create lesson plans for and conduct individual, group and classroom sessions with students. The School Guidance Counselor will establish and expedite programs and activities to assist students with being college and/or career ready upon graduation. The School Guidance Counselor will provide guidance, resources, and assistance to Charter High School students and/or legal guardians in preparation for college/career placement. The Guidance Counselor will be a key member of the MTSS team, 504 team, etc. Guidance counselor will uphold ASCA, ISBE, District and school guidelines and governance accordingly.
• The faculty associate/counselor is expected to report to work by 7:30 am and remain until 3:30 pm. The faculty associate/counselor is expected to be punctual for all required meetings, classes and duty assignments and remain at assignment for an appropriate length of time (as determined by the Principal/Director). The faculty associate/counselor will assist with duty and supervision of students. At no time should a teacher leave a student(s) unsupervised. The faculty associate/counselor is to maintain professionalism and adhere to professional responsibilities of a faculty associate and an employee of SIUE.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor Endorsement
Bachelor's degree in School Counseling, Guidance Counseling or related field
Appropriate certification as required by the Illinois State Board of Education
Preferred Requirements
Master's degree in School Counseling, Guidance Counseling or related field
2+ years of high school counseling experience
Experience with Master Scheduling and working with electronic student data bases.
Successful experience working with College and Career placement is preferred.
Excellent written, verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
Knowledge of PACE framework
