Mastery of creative software like Adobe Creative Suite, knowledge of project management tools, and familiarity with digital marketing platforms are typically required. Exceptional communication, visionary thinking, and the ability to inspire and mentor diverse teams are vital soft skills. These strengths ensure cohesive creative output, effective client engagement, and the successful execution of innovative campaigns.

What is the difference between Group Creative Director vs Creative Director?

AspectGroup Creative DirectorCreative Director
ResponsibilitiesOversees multiple creative teams and manages overall creative strategy across projects or brands.Leads a single creative team or project, focusing on specific deliverables and execution.
Experience & CredentialsTypically requires 10+ years in creative roles, with leadership experience and a strong portfolio.Usually requires 5-10 years of creative experience, with proven project management skills.
Work EnvironmentWorks across departments, often in larger agencies or corporate settings, with strategic oversight.Works closely with creative teams on day-to-day project execution, often in smaller teams.

The main difference is that a Group Creative Director manages multiple creative teams and sets strategic direction, while a Creative Director focuses on leading a single team or project. Both roles require extensive creative experience, but the Group Creative Director has broader oversight and leadership responsibilities.

Is group creative director higher than creative director?

A group creative director typically holds a higher position than a creative director, overseeing multiple teams or accounts and setting broader strategic vision. The group role involves greater leadership responsibilities and often requires more experience and management skills. However, titles and hierarchy can vary by organization.

What is a Group Creative Director?

A Group Creative Director is a senior leadership role in advertising, marketing, or creative agencies, responsible for overseeing the creative direction and output of multiple teams or brands. They guide creative strategy, mentor creative directors and their teams, and ensure that all work aligns with a client’s objectives and brand identity. Group Creative Directors collaborate closely with clients, account leads, and other departments to deliver innovative and effective campaigns. Their vision and leadership help shape the overall creative culture within an organization.

How does a Group Creative Director typically balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on creative work?

As a Group Creative Director, you’ll find that much of your time is dedicated to leading and mentoring creative teams, setting the vision for multiple projects, and ensuring cohesive brand messaging across campaigns. While you may still participate in brainstorming sessions and review key creative deliverables, the majority of your role involves strategic oversight, stakeholder management, and facilitating collaboration among art directors, copywriters, and account teams. Striking the right balance means empowering your teams to execute ideas while providing guidance and feedback to maintain quality and consistency. This leadership focus can be both challenging and rewarding, especially for those transitioning from more hands-on creative roles.

Job description

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR_
We’re looking for an ACD & 3D Designer, Experiential who leads with vision and designs with care — crafting spaces that inspire connection, spark emotion, and leave a lasting impact. Someone who thinks in dimensions, translates content into form, and brings both creative vision and executional craft to the table.
This role helps shape experiential direction from pitch to production, partnering with cross-functional teams, external collaborators, and clients to bring brand experiences to life. While the ACD will help influence and elevate ideas, they do so within a broader internal creative vision, under the guidance of the Group Creative Director.
This role is fueled by curiosity — the kind that seeks fresh ideas, questions the expected, and pushes creative boundaries. The ideal candidate thrives in the in-between, where ideas are still forming and possibilities are wide open. They find energy in shaping large-scale environments as well as crafting the micro-moments that make an experience unforgettable.
At its core, this role is about visual storytelling — transforming strategy, content, and space into immersive moments that invite curiosity, spark connection, and leave a lasting impression.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES_
  • Creative Drive Creative Vision: Partner with the Group Creative Director to define creative direction while balancing brand integrity, client goals, production feasibility, and budget realities.
  • Maintain Creative Standards: Align with project leadership to ensure all concepts and designs reflect Brand Apart’s overarching creative vision and standards.
  • Shape Immersive Experiences: Support the development of immersive brand experiences and physical environments from ideation through execution.
  • Translate Story into Space: Interpret messaging, storytelling, and event themes into spatial narratives — translating story into experience through environments, installations, and intentional design moments.
  • Design Holistically: Design across the full environment — considering installations, signage, storytelling touchpoints, furniture, food & beverage, and transitional spaces.
  • Visualize + Present Concepts: Communicate ideas through sketching, mood boards, and 3D renderings that clearly articulate creative intent.
  • Integrate Brand + Graphics: Collaborate with graphic design to ensure brand visuals are seamlessly integrated into physical environments.
  • Collaborate with Creative Teams: Share creative ownership with Designers, shaping visual storytelling together as a team.
  • Build Client-Facing Tools: Develop creative playbooks, presentation decks, and client-facing design documentation that bring the work to life with clarity.
  • Support External Partners: Liaise with external collaborators (e.g. fabricators, tech vendors, consultants) to support and elevate creative direction.
EXECUTION_
  • Lead Spatial Design Development: Design and develop all spatial elements of large-scale environments — from floor plans and elevations to materials, lighting, and spatial storytelling.
  • Collaborate with Production Partners: Source and collaborate with best-in-class fabricators, technology partners, and production teams to deliver top-tier creative.
  • Own the Design Handoff: Lead the design handoff process, ensuring internal teams and external partners have the direction, documentation, and clarity needed to execute.
  • Stay Close to the Build: Engage deeply in the build process — from technical reviews and shop visits to installations and walkthroughs.
  • Align Scope + Logistics: Partner with Experience Producers and Project Leads to align timelines, budgets, and deliverables — identifying risks early and offering smart, creative solutions.
  • Present + Refine Work: Present ideas to internal and external stakeholders, incorporating feedback while maintaining alignment with creative vision.
  • Design Resourcefully: Use existing Brand Apart décor, furniture, and assets resourcefully — extending their life and creatively reimagining them when appropriate.
SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE_
  • Lead as a Creative Partner: Own your role as a collaborative creative leader, working alongside designers, strategists, contractors, and producers under the direction of the Group Creative Director.
  • Translate Client Goals Creatively: Champion internal creative standards while translating client goals through Brand Apart’s unique lens.
  • Deliver Exceptional Experiences: Deliver experiential work that is strategically grounded, beautifully executed, and emotionally resonant.
  • Build Thoughtful Storytelling: Translate story and strategy into spatial storytelling that supports key content and engages every guest.
  • Inspire and Align Teams: Foster creative alignment, accountability, and collaboration at every stage.
  • Communicate with Confidence: Present ideas with clarity and conviction —connecting concept to impact in ways that build confidence and excitement.
  • Stay Calm Under Pressure: Proactively identify creative or logistical challenges and respond with flexibility and composure.
  • Show Up in the Process: Participate in team rhythms — from brainstorms and internal reviews to client check-ins and post-event recaps.
  • Lead On-Site Direction: Lead on-site creative direction to ensure the final environment reflects the original vision with care and craft.
  • Prioritize Sustainability: Advocate for sustainable, resourceful design practices whenever possible.
  • Drive Future Work: Support new ideas, creative pitches, and concept development for future experiential projects.
  • Explore New Tools + Partners: Seek innovative vendors, materials, tech tools, and collaborators to evolve our approach.
  • Mentor Junior Creatives: Mentor junior creatives while maintaining a hands-on approach when the work calls for it.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE_
  • 7–10+ years of experience in experiential design, environmental design, event production, or related creative fields.
  • Proven experience leading projects from concept through installation — including pop-ups, conferences, activations, and immersive brand storytelling.
  • Strong conceptual and visual communication skills — from sketching and rendering to presenting strategic rationale.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; working knowledge of SketchUp, Rhino, or other 3D design and rendering tools.
  • Experience collaborating with fabricators, architects, and production partners to bring complex spatial ideas to life.
  • A portfolio that showcases bold, strategic, and beautifully executed creative environments.
  • Excellent verbal and visual communication skills — with the ability to clearly explain design decisions to both creative and non-creative audiences.
  • Passion for immersive storytelling and a drive to create experiences that move people.
