What are groundmen?

Groundmen, also known as ground workers or groundpersons, are entry-level workers in the electrical utility or construction industries. They assist linemen and other crew members by handling tools, materials, and equipment on the ground. Their responsibilities include maintaining a safe work area, preparing and organizing equipment, and supporting the team with various manual tasks. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication help Groundmen assist linemen safely and efficiently. These skills ensure safe job site operations, minimize accidents, and support the overall effectiveness of utility crews.

What are some common challenges faced by groundmen in the utility or construction industry?

Groundmen often face challenges such as working in various weather conditions, handling heavy equipment, and maintaining safety in potentially hazardous environments. The role requires constant attention to safety protocols, especially when working near energized lines or heavy machinery. Adapting to changing job sites and effectively communicating with linemen and other crew members are also key to ensuring smooth operations.
