Job description

Graphic Design & Digital Marketing Internship Fall 2026
Internship dates: August 2026-December 2026
Position Summary
This member of the ZooTampa Marketing Department will be responsible for providing assistance primarily to the Digital Marketing and Brand teams but may also assist additional teams as needed.
Essential Functions (including but not limited to):
  • Assist with asset creation and revisions for digital and print collateral using Adobe and Microsoft.
  • Assist with managing content on the website, which could include reviewing copy and resizing images.
  • Help manage the content on digital signage around the park.
  • Assist with the creation of small and large scale signage throughout the park.
  • Assist with the capture and creation of new content, including taking photos, editing videos, and writing basic copy.
  • Support the production of assets for upcoming events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • Junior or senior in graphic design, digital arts, or similar field with an interest in Marketing.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) preferably two years of in-school experience working with these programs.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (mainly Word and Excel) and Google Sheets/Docs.
  • Understands the basic principles of design.
  • Able to adapt well and quickly to various other computer programs and technologies.
  • Creative with the ability to think outside the box.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities at one time.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently or collaboratively as needed.
  • Has a passion for learning new skills and is self-motivated.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work 10-20 hours per week on-site (required).

Other Requirements:
  • Portfolio of pieces from personal or school projects that show your understanding of Adobe software and basic principles of design.
  • Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfare.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts, including holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, and walking.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • If an internship offer is made, it is contingent on:
  • Candidates seeking academic credit must have arrangements agreed upon between the Zoo and their school before beginning the internship.
  • All offers are contingent on the successful completion of a criminal background screening and execution of a required hold harmless/liability release agreement.
  • The candidate will be responsible for the cost of the background check (typically $25, but certain jurisdictions may have additional fees).
  • Interns must have personal health insurance coverage for illness or injury (as volunteers and interns are not covered by the Zoo workers' compensation program).

    Internships are unpaid and are designed to meet academic requirements, as applicable, and provide valuable real-world experience for participants. Successful completion of an internship may also yield letters of recommendation, a portfolio of their work when applicable, and important networking contacts.
