DESCRIPTION
Otterbein University, in partnership with Antioch University Graduate School, seeks a highly motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Softball program for the 2026-27 academic year.
Otterbein University is an NCAA Division III institution and a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference. Located in Westerville, Ohio, Otterbein is a nationally recognized liberal arts institution with a strong tradition of academic and athletic excellence.
This is a 10-month position that includes a full graduate tuition waiver, a stipend valued up to $6,000 (less applicable taxes), a meal plan, and potential housing support.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Graduate Teaching Assistant is a 10-month position beginning Fall 2026 and is renewable for a second year (maximum of two years), contingent upon successful performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
Graduate Assistants must meet all graduate program requirements, maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA, and remain enrolled in graduate coursework each semester through Otterbein University or Antioch University.
Evening and weekend work is required, along with limited team travel.
The Graduate Teaching Assistant for Softball will assist the Head Softball Coach in all aspects of operating a successful NCAA Division III program, including:
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of practices and game-day coaching.
  • Providing instruction in the development of individual and team softball skills.
  • Recruiting and evaluating prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, Ohio Athletic Conference, and University regulations.
  • Assisting with practice planning, scouting, opponent analysis, and game preparation.
  • Monitoring student-athlete academic progress and supporting retention efforts.
  • Assisting with team travel, equipment management, scheduling, and other administrative duties.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Acceptance into a graduate program with Otterbein University or an on-line or low residency Graduate program with Antioch University:
    • Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Allied Health (MSAH), Master of Athletic Training (MAT), Master of Arts Teaching (MAT), Master of Art in Education (MAE), Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) Ohio
  • Must live locally while classes are in session
  • A valid driver license; Must complete Otterbein Driving certification.
  • Previous participation and/or coaching experience in college athletics preferred
