About the role 

Mater is seeking an exceptional Director, Government Relations to lead our government engagement, policy influence and funding advocacy agenda across Federal, State and Local Government.

This is a critical and high impact leadership role responsible for positioning Mater as a trusted, solutions-focused partner to government. You will influence policy, secure strategic funding and partnerships, and drive advocacy outcomes that support our Mater's Mission and objectives across health, community services, workforce and our education and research subsidiaries.

Working closely with the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, the Group Leadership Team and senior leaders across Mater Health, Mater Education, Mater Research and Mater Foundation, you will shape and deliver an group wide government relations strategy that creates measurable impact. 

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900+access to many staff benefits!  

What you'll be doing

  • Lead Mater's government relations, policy and advocacy strategy, with a focus on Federal engagement
  • Identify and secure funding, partnership and policy opportunities aligned to strategic priorities
  • Monitor political and policy environments to proactively shape opportunities
  • Develop high-impact submissions, briefings and advocacy materials
  • Build and maintain senior relationships across government, ministerial offices and key stakeholders
  • Provide strategic, politically informed advice to executives and represent Mater externally 

About you

You are a highly credible and strategic leader with deep political insight, strong executive presence and an established network across government and industry.

  • Proven senior experience in government relations, public policy or advocacy
  • Strong network across government, ministerial and sector stakeholders
  • Track record of influencing policy, funding or partnership outcomes
  • Deep understanding of government processes and funding pathways
  • Exceptional communication, judgement and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Commercially astute with the ability to deliver measurable outcomes
