POSITION SUMMARY
The Student Leaders Intern participates in a structured six-week internship designed to provide exposure to nonprofit leadership, community impact, and workforce development programs at Goodwill San Antonio. The internship introduces students to the mission-driven work of Goodwill and provides hands-on experience observing and supporting activities that contribute to the organization's workforce development initiatives.
For more than 80 years, Goodwill San Antonio has remained dedicated to its mission of "changing lives through the power of work" while serving communities across San Antonio and South Texas. Proceeds from donated goods retail operations fund career training, education, and employment placement services provided at no cost to participants. In addition, Goodwill's Business Services division provides outsourcing solutions to businesses and government agencies, creating meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with diverse abilities and backgrounds.
Through this internship, Student Leaders gain insight into how nonprofit organizations operate, fund programs, and deliver services that support economic opportunity and community well-being.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Learns and demonstrates understanding of Goodwill San Antonio's mission, vision, and workforce development programs.
  • Participates in orientation sessions to understand the structure and operations of a nonprofit organization.
  • Engages in job shadowing opportunities with program staff and leadership to observe daily nonprofit operations and decision-making.
  • Attends staff meetings, informational sessions, and program briefings to gain exposure to organizational management routines and program implementation.
  • Observes and learns about nonprofit governance, including the role of executive leadership and board oversight.
  • Gains exposure to nonprofit resource development activities including fundraising, budgeting, and community partnerships.
  • Assists program teams with projects or activities that support workforce development services and community engagement initiatives.
  • Participates in activities that provide exposure to volunteer coordination, community outreach, and service delivery.
  • Contributes to assigned projects designed to provide practical experience in nonprofit program operations.
  • Engages in discussions and reflective learning activities that promote leadership development and professional growth.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication in all interactions with staff, participants, and community partners.
  • Performs other duties and project assignments as designated to support learning objectives of the internship.
  • Administrative or clerical tasks will be limited to ensure Student Leaders gain meaningful exposure to nonprofit leadership and program operations.

REQUIREMENTS
  1. Rising college sophomore participating in the Bank of America Student Leaders Program.
  2. Demonstrated interest in community engagement, leadership development, or nonprofit service.
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Ability to collaborate and engage professionally with staff and community members.
  5. Interest in learning about nonprofit organizations, workforce development, and community impact initiatives.
  6. Ability to participate in a structured internship environment and complete assigned projects and learning activities.
  7. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  8. For positions that require driving, must maintain a valid driver's license and automobile insurance coverage, and be able to travel as needed if you drive your vehicle during company business.
ADDITIONAL PROGRAM COMPONENT
As participants in the Bank of America Student Leaders Program, interns will attend a three-day paid Student Leadership Summit in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This summit is sponsored and coordinated by Bank of America and the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. Student Leaders will participate in leadership development sessions and networking opportunities with peers and Bank of America associates from across the country.
INTERNSHIP STRUCTURE
  • Duration: 6 weeks (June-July 2026)
  • Schedule: Approximately 35 hours per week
  • Location: Goodwill San Antonio program and administrative locations
