Description

The Teaching Assistant partners with the Certified Teacher in the planning and implementation of daily activities in the pre-K classroom, adhering to Head Start Performance Standards, NYS Office of Children and Family Services Day Care Regulations and all other applicable program regulations.ย Working in a team environment, the Teaching Assistant will participate in weekly planning sessions, attend training and meetings as required, ensure a safe and healthy classroom environment, assist in classroom, and program modifications and help with inventory as needed.ย ย 

Teaching Assistantsย work 37.5 hours per week, following the school year calendar.ย 

Summary of Job Duties

  • Make ongoing observations of childrenโ€™s development and maintain anecdotal records.
  • Ensure implementation of the developed lessons plans and learning objectives as assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist Lead Teacher in utilizing the Teaching Strategies GOLD child outcomes Assessment Tool at each of the three checkpoints.

Ideal Skills

  • Strong organizational and basic math skills.
  • Communication and language skills to comprehend documents and other correspondence.
  • Strong computer skills with basic knowledge of Excel Microsoft office and other office equipment such as copier, scanner, fax, etc.
  • Ability to interact with customers from a variety of backgrounds and with different levels of management.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years related work experience. The Teaching Assistant position prefers a Child Development Associate (CDA).

The ideal candidate must have a driverโ€™s license, meeting agency standards and consistent, reliable transportation that will allow regular travel in and around the service area.
