Job Description/Summary:

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time General Maintenance Worker. The GMW will have the responsibility of a designated complex of buildings to ensure proper maintenance is performed, scheduled tasks are accomplished, the building’s overall condition, documentation, service ticket completion, and complete general maintenance for the structures. The General Maintenance Worker will perform general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and general facilities maintenance. The GMW will be responsible for climbing ladders, replacing lightbulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, and responding to service tickets submitted by the customer. The position requires going on roofs, climbing ladders, lifting 50 pounds, fixing leaking sinks, moving furniture, installing blinds, repairing broken doors, replacing cabinets, and verifying all tasks are completed to ensure the building stays operational. The job will be located on the United States Merchant Marine Academy Campus and will be working with a team at Kings Point, NY ON-SITE.

Our wage for this position is $30-35/hr

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • General Maintenance Workers will provide mechanical support to all facilities (buildings, structures, and grounds) including minor repairs on roofs, stairs, doors, furniture, water fountains, power washing, cleaning gutters, minor electrical repair such as replacing light ballasts, leaky faucets, generator operational checks. Perform Inspections and operational checks for irrigation systems, diesel generators, emergency lighting, and other facility systems.
  • The General Maintenance Worker will perform maintenance & service activities/requirements (provided by Facilities) for assigned building(s), and other special-purpose installations, including maintenance activities, and ensuring preventive maintenance programs are on schedule by interfacing with the CORs of the various contracts to include Maintenance and Facility Site Services.
  • The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work involves a variety of the following duties: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment, tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken windowpanes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery. The job also requires the ability to lift 50 lbs. of furniture to assist in moving couches, chairs, dining room sets, and miscellaneous items.
