Job Description

Do you enjoy turning data into meaningful information? Are you passionate about mapping, technology, and maintaining accurate records that support critical infrastructure?

As a GIS Technician, you'll play an important role in maintaining and enhancing NineStar Connect's Geographic Information System (GIS). Your work will directly support our electric, communications, water, and wastewater operations by ensuring our mapping data is accurate, reliable, and available to the teams that depend on it every day.

You'll collaborate across departments, support mapping projects, and help maintain the geographic information that keeps our systems operating efficiently.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain accurate GIS mapping for NineStar's utility systems.
  • Update GIS databases using information from staking, design, construction, CIS, and other company systems.
  • Assist with GIS reporting and special mapping projects.
  • Support preventative maintenance tracking and reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure GIS data remains current and accurate.
  • Build relationships with local, county, state, and federal GIS organizations to share geographic data and best practices.
  • Provide technical support for GIS software and mapping applications.
  • Produce maps and geographic reports to support business operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • One year of GIS experience preferred.
  • Equivalent education and experience combinations, including GIS certificates or graduate education, may be considered.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience with GIS software and mapping systems.
  • Understanding of GPS data collection.
  • Familiarity with cartography principles.
  • Basic knowledge of Python or other scripting languages is a plus.
  • Experience with remote sensing is a plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret maps, schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management skills.
