Position Description
Redhorse has an immediate need for a GIS and Data Management Specialist who will work on-site at the customer’s facility at Fort Irwin National Training Center, CA to perform GIS services for the natural and cultural resources management programs per Fort Irwin GIS data standards. The GIS data will include all electronic survey data either in Esri Shapefile format, Esri File Geodatabase, or in an Esri personal geodatabase.
Primary duties will focus on natural and cultural resources geospatial deliverables utilizing existing data and newly acquired Global Positioning System (GPS) field survey operations data at locations associated with natural and cultural resources survey activities.
Work will include the development of table structure, attributes and domains for the natural and cultural resources data as necessary utilizing existing Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) definitions of features and predefined attribute table structures or metadata.
Another key component of the position involves managing existing and creating new Access databases that contain records for surveys, monitoring, and artifact curation, including making changes to the databases and performing queries.
Work will occasionally take place in a field setting assisting biologists and archaeologists.
Basic Requirements for Experience, Skills, Education and Credentials include:
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in geography, ecology, GIS, or a related field, and 3 years of related experience working in the GIS field and applying GIS technology to natural and cultural resources planning projects.
  • Experience with managing and querying large Access databases containing records with qualitative and quantitative fields.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in the operation of ESRI GIS software, ArcCatalog, Spatial Analyst, and with Microsoft Office suite, including Access, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to design and create accurate geodatabases and models and well-designed maps that effectively communicate natural and cultural resources project information.
  • Upon hiring the applicant must be able to pass a federal background check required prior to gaining access to unclassified government computer work stations.
The work environment for this position requires an individual to be able to:
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation, which will include a check of state motor vehicle records
  • Must be able to use hands/fingers to handle, key, grasp or feel
  • Must be able to adjust to repetitive motion, reaching with hands and arms
  • Must be able to jump, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
