Overview

The Carolina Water Services of NC team is seeking a GIS Analyst to support the essential water and wastewater services our communities rely on through accurate and reliable geospatial data. The GIS Analyst is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and usability of the company's mapping and spatial data systems. This role applies foundational GIS principles to data management, quality control, map production, and user support - helping ensure reliable spatial information is available across operations, engineering, and planning teams.

Work Location and Schedule

This position is located in Charlotte, NC. Scheduel Monday - Friday. Travel within service areas.

What You'll Do

In this role, the GIS Analyst will: 

  • Maintain and update GIS data through digitization, scanning, and field data collection using GPS, following established data standards 
  • Perform quality control and assurance checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of spatial data 
  • Create maps, exhibits, and visualizations to support engineering, operations, and other business functions 
  • Incorporate CAD data (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation) into GIS systems, ensuring proper alignment with data standards 
  • Use ESRI ArcGIS tools to edit, manage, and analyze spatial data related to utility assets (pipes, valves, hydrants, easements, etc.) 
  • Support data migration activities and maintain GIS metadata and documentation 
  • Assist with network tracing, connectivity checks, and validation of GIS data 
  • Provide responsive support to internal users, including map requests and GIS-related questions 
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support data updates and GIS initiatives 
  • Perform quality control/assurance of GIS data
  • Incorporation of Microstation / AutoCAD or similar computer aided design information into GIS files
  • Use GIS applications (such as ArcGIS) to enter, edit mange, analyze, report and display information
  • GIS concepts and using ESRI's GIS software
  • Provides support to system users regarding custom data and mapping products.
What You'll Bring

Education and Licenses

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Cartography, or a related field preferred 
  • Valid Driver's license


Experience 

  • 3 -7 years of GIS experience  

Nice to Have

  • ESRI ArcGIS training or certification (e.g., GISP or similar) 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop)
  • Familiarity with GIS data management, QA/QC practices, and metadata
  • Basic understanding of relational databases and GIS data structures
  • Experience working with CAD data integration (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar)
  • Exposure to SQL Server, ArcGIS Server, or geodatabases is a plus
  • Knowledge of database concepts
  • Understand UML and create ArcSDE geodatabase with domains and subtypes.
  • Ability to use GPS equipment (knowledge of GPS hardware and software and data collection workflows)
  • Ability to read engineering design drawings (water, wastewater, easements etc.)
  • Strong understanding of working in GIS tools based on Model Builder, Python, Javascript and Angular UI
  • Strong Understanding of SQL statements, geodatabase structure and capabilities
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and data documentation for reporting
  • Knowledge of Geometric Network concepts
  • Familiarity with general safety practices

  • Combination of office and occasional field work
  • Field work may involve outdoor conditions and light physical activity (walking uneven terrain, lifting up to ~25 lbs)
