Job Summary: The GIS Specialist plays a vital role in supporting and enhancing REV’s mapping data systems by providing prompt and professional customer service, maintaining high-quality data, and ensuring accurate, accessible GIS information. This position is responsible for collecting, managing, and analyzing geospatial data; creating maps, visualizations, and online GIS applications; and performing data conversions across platforms such as AutoCAD, M4, Vetro, and ArcGIS. The role also includes assisting in the development of GIS-based databases and applications, supporting process improvements, and contributing to quality initiatives. The Specialist ensures effective data storage, security, and visualization to support organizational decision-making and serves as a knowledgeable resource on GIS technologies and best practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS amp; KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: (include but are not limited to)
Specialist I:
  • Provides prompt, courteous service to all internal and external customers
  • Prioritizes and addresses customer needs and demands in a professional manner, providing follow-up and developing cooperative relationships
  • Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve processes and procedures
  • Assists in design and implementation of quality improvement initiatives on departmental level
  • Assists team members in completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service
  • Assists in maintaining various databases of special information making up the enterprise GIS and other databases and applications of interest
  • Assists in upgrades, and maintaining database software and hardware
  • Ensures that data quality and information is consistently maintained and reliably accessible for organizational uses
  • Performs data conversions across different software applications such as AutoCAD, M4, Vetro, ArcGIS, and others
  • Supports infrastructure for GIS/Data source reporting
  • Assist with M4 GIS data conversion to Vetro.
  • Assists in design, development and implementation of informational databases using GIS technology to meet various needs
  • Assists in configuring and maintaining intranet/internet web based GIS applications
  • Transposes and updates geospatial data from records, CAD Drawing, maps, parish land base maps, demographic models, and other source documents into a geodatabase
  • Proficiently performs as a project manager
  • Other duties as assigned
Specialist II:
  • Create maps and visualizations using GIS software.
  • Perform spatial analysis to identify patterns, trends, and relationships in data.
  • Collect, manage, and maintain geospatial data from various sources.
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings and insights from spatial analysis.
  • Manage data storage, security, and access.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Implements data visualization techniques to present spatial information effectively
  • Create online GIS maps that can be viewed by others either within or outside of the organization
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in GIS and spatial data analysis
  • Stay updated on emerging GIS technologies and best practices
  • Manages REV's ESRI online account and licenses.

QUALIFICATIONS amp; PREREQUISITES:
Specialist I:
  • Equivalence to an Associate’s degree in this area of specialty from an accredited college or university
  • 1 year of working experience in the field or in a related area; and/or a combination of education, experience and additional related certifications
  • General knowledge of Geographic Information System principles
  • Fundamental knowledge in AutoCAD
  • General knowledge of geographic concepts of location, scale, and resolution
  • Fundamental GIS skills
  • Operational knowledge of plotters, scanners, GPS, digitizers, scanners and wireless devices
  • Familiarity with relational database systems and programs used for GIS processing
  • General database skills
  • General knowledge of Telecommunication, CATV, WAN, LAN, ENET, etc. Network design principles and technologies
Specialist II:
  • 2+ years of working experience in the field or in a related area; and/or a combination of education, experience and additional related certifications
