Job description
Seeking a Project Manager I to support Substation Optimization projects across the Carolinas. This role is responsible for managing utility capital projects that strengthen and modernize the electric distribution grid while supporting long-term reliability and infrastructure improvements. The Project Manager will oversee projects from initiation through closeout, ensuring successful delivery while meeting scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead assigned utility capital projects from planning through execution and closeout.
- Coordinate and provide leadership to cross-functional project teams, including engineering, construction, project controls, supply chain, environmental, quality, safety, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, procurement strategies, and resource plans.
- Monitor project progress and proactively manage risks, issues, and changes.
- Facilitate project meetings and maintain clear communication with project teams, leadership, contractors, and external stakeholders.
- Prepare project status reports and provide regular updates on schedule, cost, and project performance.
- Ensure projects are executed in accordance with established project management processes and standards.
- Oversee contractor performance and support commissioning and project closeout activities.
- Promote a strong safety culture while ensuring quality and environmental compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Utility industry experience required.
- Experience supporting electric distribution, transmission, or substation projects preferred.
- Previous project management, project engineering, construction management, or project coordination experience.
- Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Maximo is preferred.
- EPC project experience is preferred.
