Job description

About SLP

SLP is a high-volume consumer lemon law firm dedicated to helping consumers resolve vehicle warranty and defect disputes. We combine tenacious litigation, thoughtful client care, and efficient case management to deliver results. The Depositions Team is an essential part of our trial-focused practice and works closely with our Trial Team to prepare strong, trial-ready cases.

The Role

We’re hiring a skilled Deposition Attorney to join our Depositions Team. The ideal candidate is a practical litigator who excels at preparing, taking, and defending depositions, can craft focused examination outlines, and partners with trial counsel to turn deposition testimony into winning trial strategy. This role requires strong California lemon law and litigation skills, excellent written and oral advocacy, and the ability to manage a steady deposition schedule across the state.

This role is 100% remote but requires active membership in the California State Bar.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed deposition outlines and focused examination plans tailored to fact and expert witnesses.
  • Take and defend depositions (fact and expert) in lemon law, warranty, and consumer litigation matters — including remote depositions and in-person proceedings.
  • Coordinate logistics and exhibits for depositions; manage meeting and subpoena needs and coordinate with court reporters and vendors.
  • Draft and review deposition summaries, transcripts, errata, and designations for trial use; identify impeachment material and trial uses for testimony.
  • Work closely with the Trial Team to convert deposition testimony into trial themes, witness strategy, and impeachment material.
  • Prepare and conduct witness preparation sessions and assist witnesses in presenting testimony effectively.
  • Draft deposition-related motions, discovery correspondence, and related pleadings.
  • Communicate directly and compassionately with clients, experts, and third-party witnesses.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and deposition calendars; collaborate with support staff and discovery attorneys.
  • Travel across California as required for in-person depositions and hearings.

Required Experience

  • Proven, hands-on experience taking and defending depositions in civil litigation. This includes experience with both fact and expert depositions and demonstrable skill in obtaining trial-useful testimony.
  • Experience preparing deposition examination outlines, witness-prep, and deposition summaries/transcript analysis — including identifying impeachment material and drafting deposition designations for trial.
  • Experience coordinating deposition logistics — working with court reporters, remote-deposition platforms, exhibit management, subpoenas, and vendor coordination.
  • Comfort and skill with both remote and in-person depositions (including remote technology platforms and court reporting protocols).
  • Proven ability to manage a high-volume deposition calendar and competing deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and organization.
  • Strong oral advocacy and witness examination skills demonstrated through actual deposition practice (not merely observation).
  • Excellent legal writing with examples of deposition-related work (summaries, outlines, or related pleadings).

What We Offer

  • A collaborative, trial-focused practice where depositions play a central role in case strategy.
  • Exposure to complex consumer litigation and opportunities to work closely with an experienced Trial Team.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits (health, retirement, paid time off — details provided during interview).
  • Professional development and mentorship from experienced trial and deposition attorneys.
  • Flexible/hybrid work arrangements and the opportunity to travel throughout California for depositions and hearings

Compensation: $130- 160k DOE

  • Billing bonus: Up to $20,000 - easy to earn!

Requirements

Required

  • Litigation experience with depositions — ideally 2+ years of civil litigation experience, or demonstrable courtroom/deposition experience during clerkships or internships.
  • Strong command of California civil procedure, evidence, and consumer warranty law (Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act a plus).
  • Excellent oral advocacy and witness examination skills.
  • Outstanding legal writing and the ability to produce crisp, persuasive deposition summaries and outlines.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing deadlines.

Preferred

  • Prior lemon law/consumer warranty litigation experience.
  • Experience working on high-volume caseloads and preparing files for trial.
  • Trial experience (or strong desire and aptitude for trial work).
  • Familiarity with deposition-related software/workflows, court reporting protocols, and remote deposition technology.

Benefits

We’re committed to supporting the well-being and success of our team through a robust and thoughtfully designed benefits package, including:

  • 401(k) with Employer Match – Plan for your future with confidence and company support.
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance – Comprehensive coverage to keep you and your family healthy.
  • Short-Term, Long-Term Disability & Life Insurance – Financial protection for life’s unexpected events.
  • Paid Parking – Convenient and covered, so you can focus on your day.
