IT Manager  - ABM Industries About the Role 


ABM is seeking a people-focused and execution-oriented IT Manager to lead a team of Project Managers responsible for delivering enterprise technology initiatives. 
This role serves as the functional leader for project delivery talent within the PMO organization. The IT Manager is accountable for building a high-performing project management team, establishing consistent delivery practices, developing project management capabilities, and ensuring Project Managers are equipped to successfully execute technology initiatives across the enterprise. 


The IT Manager directly manages Project Managers and is responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management, career development, workforce planning, and delivery excellence across the team. 


In ABM's operating model, Portfolio Managers own portfolio prioritization, executive governance, and investment decisions. Project Managers own end-to-end project execution. The IT Manager enables success by developing the people, processes, standards, and organizational capacity required to deliver consistently and effectively. 
The ideal candidate combines strong leadership skills with practical project delivery experience and enjoys helping others grow while improving organizational execution capabilities.

Pay: $110,000-$155,000
The pay listed is the salary range for this position. Any specific offer will vary based on the successful applicant's 
education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

Experience & Qualifications 
Required 
    7+ years of experience leading technology projects, programs, or PMO functions 
    3+ years of direct people leadership experience 
    Experience managing Project Managers or similar delivery-focused professionals 
    Strong understanding of project management methodologies including Waterfall, Agile, and hybrid approaches 
    Experience supporting enterprise technology implementations and digital transformation initiatives 
    Demonstrated success coaching, mentoring, and developing professionals 
    Strong communication, stakeholder management, and conflict-resolution skills 
    Experience working in complex, matrixed organizations 
Preferred 
    Experience within enterprise PMO organizations 
    Experience partnering with portfolio management or governance functions 
    Exposure to AI, automation, analytics, ERP, infrastructure, cybersecurity, or digital transformation programs 
    Experience establishing delivery standards and PMO practices 
    Experience with project portfolio management and resource planning tools 
Certifications (Preferred) 
    PMP or PMI PgMP/PfMP preferred but not required

Project Management Practice Leadership 
    Establish and maintain project management standards, methodologies, templates, and best practices 
    Promote consistent execution across waterfall, Agile, and hybrid delivery approaches 
    Ensure Project Managers effectively apply governance, risk management, and reporting standards 
    Drive adoption of delivery frameworks, tools, and project management processes 
    Maintain quality standards for project documentation, status reporting, and governance artifacts 
    Facilitate knowledge sharing and lessons learned across the project management community 
Delivery Excellence & Oversight 
    Provide delivery leadership and coaching across active projects 
    Monitor project health, risks, resource constraints, and delivery trends across the team 
    Support Project Managers in resolving complex issues, stakeholder challenges, and escalations 
    Ensure projects maintain appropriate planning, execution, governance, and communication practices 
    Promote proactive risk identification and mitigation planning 
    Partner with Project Managers to improve delivery predictability and outcomes 
Resource & Capacity Management 
    Manage project management resource allocation and workforce planning 
    Partner with Portfolio Managers and PMO leadership to align staffing with portfolio demand 
    Assess team capacity and recommend hiring, contractor support, or resource reallocations 
    Balance workloads across Project Managers to ensure sustainable delivery 
    Develop succession and contingency plans for critical delivery roles 
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration 
    Partner closely with Portfolio Managers, business leaders, technology teams, and vendors 
    Support organizational alignment across delivery teams and business stakeholders 
    Facilitate resolution of cross-project challenges and organizational roadblocks 
    Help establish strong working relationships between Project Managers and key stakeholders 
    Represent project delivery capabilities and team needs within PMO leadership discussions 
Continuous Improvement & Organizational Maturity 
    Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance project delivery performance 
    Analyze project metrics, delivery trends, and lessons learned to identify improvement opportunities 
    Improve project management processes, reporting approaches, and team effectiveness 
    Promote adoption of emerging project management practices, tools, and technologies 
    Support organizational readiness for digital transformation, AI, automation, analytics, and other strategic initiatives
