Position Summary

Behavioral Health Tech (BHT) is responsible and accountable for assisting the RN or LPN in patient care. A BHT also assists with gathering information which assists the RN/LPN in the implementation of the patient treatment and care plan. The Behavioral Health Tech also ensures patient and family safety while offering support and comfort to patients and families. The BHT assists in creating and maintaining a therapeutic environment. Work is performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the hospital.

Delray Medical Center, part of the Palm Beach Health Network, is a 536-bed acute care hospital spanning 30 acres, employing over 1,700 employees, 700 physicians and serving southern Palm Beach County for over 40 years. As both a community hospital and state-designated Level I Trauma Center, Delray Medical Center offers several specialized services including advanced cardiac and vascular facilities, orthopedics, neurosciences, emergency care and weight-loss surgery. Pinecrest Rehabilitation and Outpatient Hospital at Delray Medical Center is the only state designated brain and spinal cord injury rehabilitation program in the county by the State of Florida. Minimum Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience: Prior experience in behavioral healthcare setting.

  • Licensure & Certifications:

    • American Heart Association BLS certification

    • Successful completion of CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

    • Non-Violent CrisisPrevention Certification course within 90 days of hire and maintained annually


Preferred Requirements

  • Education: BA/BS in psychology or related degree.

  • Experience: Two (2) years of behavioral health experience with adult/psychiatric/substance abuse inpatients

Under the direct supervision of a professional nurse, or other designated supervisor,

  • Assists in the care of selected psychiatric patients by performing those specific duties which are within their capabilities related to educational
    preparation, experience and skills.
  • Reports all observations to the registered nurse.
  • Manages time effectively and completes all assignments in a timely manner.
  • Assists other staff, as needed.
  • Answers telephones and take messages.
  • Assist patients with meals, distribute supplies, maintain good working order of equipment.
  • Also, exhibit good knowledge of equipment, keep patient areas clean, neat and safe.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current infection control procedures and practices same.
