Job description

French Copywriter / Translator

We are looking for a French copywriter/translator to support the launch of a French e-commerce experience and ongoing marketing in France.

This role will serve as the primary FR-FR language expert, ensuring the brand voice translates naturally and appropriately for the French market across both website and marketing channels, while balancing conversion goals with brand standards.

The role will focus on reviewing and refining AI-generated translations, as well as localizing existing English-based content for a French audience.

This is an ongoing, retainer-style role with a consistent flow of work across website and marketing initiatives. Projects are managed via Airtable and Smartling, with clearly defined priorities and turnaround times typically ranging from 1–5 business days.

Website translation review must be completed directly inside Smartling, the translation platform that connects to Shopify. Familiarity with Smartling or similar translation management systems is strongly preferred. Marketing translation will be done within a variety of tools, including Figma, Frame.io, and Google Docs/Slides.

Key Responsibilities

1. Website Localization & QA (Core)

  • Conduct ongoing QA of the French (FR-FR) ecommerce experience, ensuring accuracy, fluency, and consistency with established brand voice
  • Review and refine AI-generated translations directly in Smartling, making necessary linguistic and tonal adjustments
  • Translate net-new website content from English into French, maintaining clarity, accuracy, and conversion best practices
  • Identify and flag inconsistencies, errors, or areas for improvement across the French site

2. Marketing Channel Translation & Copy Adaptation

  • Translate and adapt English marketing content into FR-FR across channels (CRM, paid, social, retail, press, campaigns, and more)
  • Execute within an established brand voice, ensuring all outputs feel natural and market-appropriate
  • Apply copywriting judgment to improve flow, readability, and effectiveness—not just direct translation

3. Tools & Workflow

  • Website translation work will be completed directly in Smartling
  • Marketing content will often be translated or edited in Figma, Google Docs, and Google Slides
  • Collaborate with the team primarily via Slack
