Job description

Job Title: Freelance โ€“ Global Assistant Merchant Location: New York, NY 10016 (63 Madison Ave) Employment Type: Contract (3-6+months) | 40 hrs/week | Openings: 2 Tax Status: W2

Position Summary

The Global Assistant Merchant supports the development of a commercially viable global assortment that meets the needs of international markets. This role partners closely with merchandising, design, and production teams and helps manage sell-in tools and product samples for international partners in preparation for go-to-market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support international product strategies for assigned departments/division across key milestone meetings (roadmap, product alignment, coordination).
  • Prepare tools and templates needed to communicate assortment updates to cross-functional teams (CFT).
  • Participate in product milestone reviews; recommend additions/changes to meet international business needs.
  • Partner with the manager on geo-specific product requirements and ensure execution aligns to the global roadmap.
  • Assist with product development process support, including timeline/time & action calendar awareness and adjustments for international needs.
  • Build and maintain seasonal assortment communication (sell-in) tools in NuOrder, ensuring:
    • Product details are complete and accurate (imagery, costing, retail pricing)
    • Updates and change communications are shared with internal and external partners
    • High attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Analyze product performance and sales to identify opportunities that impact future product development.
  • Support sample management across the business (go-to-market readiness, PS samples, PR, etc.).
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with International and U.S. cross-functional partners.
  • Communicate business issues to manager in a timely manner.
  • Weekly/Monthly/Seasonal sales reporting.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior buying, merchandising, or product development experience.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic agility.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment.
  • International experience preferred; ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong fashion sense and trend awareness.
  • Intermediate Excel required (PivotTables, VLOOKUP); proficient in MS Office, Outlook, and internet applications.
  • Strong analytical, prioritization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
