Job Description:
The Fractional Controller directs and supports the accounting and financial activities of client companies that do not require a full-time internal accounting department or Chief Financial Officer. This role is responsible for overseeing the preparation and analysis of current financial information, developing forecasts and budgets, maintaining financial controls, and supporting strategic and operational decision-making. The Fractional Controller works closely with client leadership, internal CFOs, and accounting staff under varying project structures. This position can be based in any Frost, PLLC office location or can be fully remote.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • May supervise or guide client accounting staff on an as-needed basis.
  • Collaborates with internal CFO and advisory teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with clients and internal teams to develop short-, mid-, and long-term financial forecasts.
  • Prepare budgets based on forecasts and business objectives.
  • Assist with and oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and review general ledger activity.
  • Direct the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and related reports.
  • Compare sales and profit projections to actual results and budgeted expenses to actual expenses; recommend or implement adjustments to forecasts and budgets.
  • Provide strategic management of accounting and finance functions for clients.
  • Develop, implement, and improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and financial manuals.
  • Recommend improvements to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of financial information.
  • Implement and optimize accounting systems; assist with conversions and upgrades as needed.
  • Provide cost accounting and margin analysis to support understanding of product and service profitability.
  • Identify and manage business risks, including insurance requirements.
  • Review financial planning processes and suggest improvements to current methods.
  • Oversee or support the investment of funds and assist with capital raises or expansion initiatives, working with investment bankers as required.
  • Collaborate with client executive leadership and management on financial strategy and operational planning.
  • Assist clients with hiring efforts related to accounting and finance functions.
  • Support preparation of financial reports required for shareholders, lenders, regulatory bodies, or other stakeholders.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • BS in Accounting or Professional Accountancy.
  • At least 7-10 years of accounting experience.
  • Travel approximately 25% of time.
  • Remote work availability.

Nice To Have Experience:
  • CPA or CMA preferred but not required.
  • Experience in agricultural industry strongly preferred.
  • Canopy, AGRIS, AgTrax, Great Plains, Net Suite, QuickBooks, AgVance, Business Central, Sage, or other relevant industry software.
