What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a fractional consultant?

To excel as a Fractional Consultant, you need extensive expertise in your field, a proven track record of delivering results, and strong problem-solving abilities, often supported by an advanced degree or professional certification. Familiarity with project management tools, client collaboration software, and industry-specific analytics platforms is highly valuable. These skills enable Fractional Consultants to efficiently assess client needs, implement impactful solutions, and drive measurable results across multiple organizations.

What is fractional consulting?

A Fractional Consulting job involves providing specialized expertise to businesses on a part-time or contract basis, rather than as a full-time employee. Fractional consultants typically work with multiple clients, offering strategic guidance, problem-solving, and implementation support in areas like finance, marketing, operations, or technology. This approach allows companies to access high-level experience without the cost of a full-time hire. It is ideal for startups, small businesses, or organizations in transition that need expert advice but not on a full-time basis.

What does a typical work schedule look like for a fractional consultant?

A Fractional Consultant usually works on a part-time or contract basis, engaging with multiple clients simultaneously or sequentially. Schedules can vary widely depending on client needs, with many consultants splitting their time between on-site visits, remote meetings, and independent project work. This flexible arrangement allows for autonomy, but it also requires excellent time management and the ability to prioritize among competing demands. It is common to collaborate closely with client leadership teams and provide strategic guidance on an as-needed basis.

Job description

Description
About Prestige Accounting & Consulting
Prestige Accounting & Consulting is an accounting and business advisory firm that helps law firm owners understand their finances, improve profitability, strengthen operations, and build scalable businesses.
Our work extends beyond bookkeeping, tax preparation, and financial reporting. We help law firm owners make better decisions about cash flow, hiring, compensation, marketing, technology, leadership, and long-term growth.
Our advisors serve as strategic partners to clients by translating financial and operational information into clear, practical recommendations.
Position Summary
The Fractional CFO is responsible for helping law firm owners understand their financial performance and make informed decisions that support profitable, sustainable growth.
This position combines accounting knowledge, financial analysis, business consulting, client relationship management, and executive coaching. The advisor will conduct regular client meetings, review financial and operational performance, identify challenges, recommend solutions, and hold clients accountable for implementing agreed-upon action plans.
The ideal candidate is financially knowledgeable, highly consultative, comfortable leading conversations with business owners, and able to explain complex information in clear, practical language.
This is not a traditional accounting position focused primarily on preparing financial statements or completing reconciliations. The successful candidate will use financial information as the foundation for broader conversations about strategy, operations, team development, marketing, profitability, and growth.
