Job Description
Mississippi Valley State University, an NCAA Division I member and historically black university (HBCU) competing in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and qualified individual for the position of Assistant Football Coach. Under the direction of the Head Football Coach this position is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the football program, including recruiting, on-field instruction, game planning, academic monitoring of student-athletes, and administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities
On-Field Coaching: Instruct student-athletes in techniques, strategies, and rules during practice and games.
Recruiting: Identify, evaluate, and recruit high-quality student-athletes, with a focus on cultivating relationships within assigned geographic areas to attract talent to MVSU.
Game Preparation: Assist with film study, breakdown of opponent footage, and the development of game plans.
Academic & Personal Development: Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes, ensuring compliance with NCAA, SWAC, and university standards. Mentor student-athletes in academic and personal life.
Administrative Duties: Assist with daily operational tasks, including equipment management, team travel, and compliance paperwork.
Fundraising & PR: Participate in community engagement, alumni events, and fundraising activities to support the football program.
Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with all NCAA, SWAC, and University rules and regulations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required with prior football coaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Playing Experience: Previous playing experience at the collegiate or professional level is preferred.
Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with recruits, parents, and coaches.
Proficiency: Proficiency in Hudl, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),Teamworks Compliance software and other film analysis software.
Knowledge: Thorough familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations.
