As part of the university, the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center is a federally funded center that operates exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students as well as national outreach programs which develop and disseminate innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide, and provide information, training, and technical assistance to parents and professionals serving children from birth through age 21.

Summary:

Reporting to the Head Football Coach, the Assistant Football Coach supports a competitive program focused on student-athlete development and compliance with NCAA Division III and institutional standards, while coordinating recruiting, overseeing operations, and collaborating with academic partners to support student success.


Job Description:

  • Coordinates the recruitment of football players; organizes and conducts all football practice sessions; and teaches the mechanics and techniques of football to the players and ensures that steps are taken to reduce the risks of injury.

  • Monitors the academic progress of football players through ongoing communication and collaborative efforts with Academic Advising, Tutorial & Instructional Programs, and First Year Seminar as well as through individual meetings with the student-athletes; and works closely with other academic units to foster improved academic performance of student-athletes.

  • Monitors, enforces, observes, communicates and supports the University's academic standards, requirements and policies, including working with the Admissions Office, Financial Aid Office, and other academic and support services offices for football players.

  • Plans and implements academic reports for student-athletes placed on Academic Warning and Academic Probation; and works closely with academic units to foster improved academic performance of student-athletes.

  • Designs and monitors safe and effective positional assigned practice plans and scouting plans to improve physical performance for all assigned players, including pre season, in-season, and off-season practice and work outs.

  • Designs appropriate positional specific exercise regimens, exercise sequences, sets, repetitions, recovery periods, load, frequency and intensity.

  • Assists the Head Coach with the supervision of interns and student workers, including instruction and coaching development, such as instruction of drills, game planning, scouting, and recruiting.

  • Assists in the maintenance of strength and conditioning records; and prepares and presents the reports of individual and team athletes' status and progress.

  • Supports the football program in a manner that reflects positively on the image and reputation of the University at all times, in accordance with the University's mission.

  • Ensures institutional compliance by adhering to all policies and procedures of the NCAA, United East, and our football conference.

  • Provides reports of activities and results, including statistical analysis.

  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.

  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.

  • Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.

  • Performs related and other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • A minimum of three years of professional experience with coaching, recruitment, or a related field.

  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NCAA Rules Exam Certification.

  • Football Coaching Certification.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of NCAA guidelines.

  • Strong skills in developing and motivating students both athletically and academically.

  • Strong commitment to the values of a liberal arts education and an understanding of the teacher/coach model in a NCAA Division III athletics program.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.

Additional Position Details:

  • This is a one-year extended temporary staff position with some benefits including health insurance, paid vacation and sick time, and paid holidays.

  • The extended temporary appointment may be renewed for another year or has an opportunity to convert to regular status with full benefits.

  • The incumbent must be able to work on weekends and in the evenings as needed.

  • The incumbent must possess a First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.

  • The incumbent must possess a valid Driver's License.
