Overview
The Food Service Supervisor provides oversight and direction to teams responsible for patient/resident, retail, and catering services (as applicable). They coordinate and lead, in conjunction with others on the department management team, to ensure that all meals are prepared and served in accordance with food safety regulations and guidelines as well as meeting therapeutic nutritional guidelines. Able to lead and engage a diverse team, providing the necessary training required to execute specific position requirements while assisting them to work toward their full potential. May take full department responsibilities in the absence of the manager/director.
What you will do
  • Ensures efficiency in kitchen/retail operations by holding the team accountable for following established workflow processes/scheduled hours/assignments and documentation of all food, safety and sanitation protocols. Works with team to prioritize workload and consistently prepare/assemble/serve food in a timely manner. Remain knowledgeable on current patient/resident census and anticipated retail volume. Coordinates need to increase/decreases in production/preparation volumes with the culinary team/Department management.
  • Where applicable (facility specific), responsible for maintaining accurate accounting functions (i.e. daily and monthly reports such as meal statistics, unit orders) daily cashier operations which may include settling cash drawers, and depositing bank bag monies. Supports personal departmental productivity by recommending creative changes.
  • Demonstrates positive customer service behaviors consistently. Strives to meet/exceed the needs of the facility's customers/patients by demonstrating flexibility and sense of urgency to create an exceptional dining experience.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory and food sanitation and safety regulations as well as compliance with all Riverside Health System and Food & Nutrition Service policies and procedures. Promotes and maintains a safe work environment for team and customers. Identifies and acts to resolve variances or suspected noncompliance to management.
  • Demonstrates positive leadership skills through supportive behaviors that include developing/educating staff on policies/procedures/best practices/strategic goals. Engages in the on-boarding initiative by seeking out opportunities to engage new employees to reduce turnover.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist in maintaining food cost and the accuracy of inventory levels in direct correlation to the need for food and supplies including that required for special functions. Responsible for monitoring/reporting all foods/supplies used to assist with accurate billing to other departments.
  • Effectively utilizes technology to increase efficiency including Food & Nutrition software, patient electronic health system (iCare), maintenance work order system, Kronos. Where applicable, assists department leadership in providing oversight of patient/resident diet office procedures and team workflow processes.
  • Demonstrates teamwork by assisting co-workers with the care of their customers; addresses customer's needs regardless of assignment. Assists others to complete tasks when necessary. Is competent in providing staff and peer relief coverage as necessary.

Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED, (Required)

Experience
  • 2 years Healthcare or hospitality food service experience (Required)

Licenses and Certifications
  • Allergen Awareness Certification - VA State - ANSI-approved Allergen Awareness certificate program within 180 Days(Required)
  • Food Protection Manager - VA State - ANSI approved Food Protection Manager Certification - VA State within 180 Days(Required)
  • Certified Dietary Manager Certified Food Protection Manager (CDM CFPP) - Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals (ANFP) (Preferred)
