Job description

Job Title: Full-Time Preschool Mandarin Teacher.
Location: Emeryville, CA, 94608.
School/Company Name: Happa Baby School.
Job Type: Full-Time.
Reports To: Preschool Director / Head of School.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and dedicated Preschool Mandarin Teacher to join our early childhood education team. In this role, you will create a vibrant, safe, and nurturing environment where young learners (ages 3-4yos) are introduced to the Mandarin language and Chinese culture through immersive, play-based learning.
The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of early childhood development, is a fluent or near-fluent Mandarin speaker, and possesses the creativity to design engaging daily activities that foster cognitive, social, and linguistic growth.
Key Responsibilities.
Curriculum & Instruction:
  • Immersive Language Delivery: Conduct daily lessons and interactions primarily in Mandarin, using a variety of techniques (immersion, dual-language, or heritage-focused, depending on school model).
  • Play-Based Lesson Planning: Design and implement age-appropriate, hands-on lesson plans that include storytelling, music, movement, puppetry, arts and crafts, and games to make language learning fun and natural.
  • Cultural Integration: Introduce students to Chinese cultural traditions, festivals (e.g., Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival), and customs through engaging classroom celebrations.

Classroom Management & Student Care:
  • Nurturing Environment: Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and emotionally supportive classroom environment that meets licensing requirements.
  • Positive Guidance: Use positive discipline and behavior management strategies that promote self-regulation, empathy, and social-emotional development.
  • Daily Care: Assist children with daily routines, including meals, snack times, transitions, recess, and restroom supervision.

Assessment & Communication:
  • Progress Tracking: Observe and document student development, language acquisition milestones, and behavioral progress.
  • Parent Partnership: Maintain open, warm, and professional communication with parents through daily updates, app notifications, and parent-teacher conferences (twice/year).
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with co-teachers, specialists, and administration to ensure a holistic educational experience for the children.

Qualifications & Skills Required:
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent or near-fluent fluency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written) and communication skills in English.
  • Education: High school diploma/GED required; Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or 12+ Early Childhood Education (ECE) units strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience working with preschool-aged children in a structured group setting.
  • Legal Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Background Clearances: Must pass a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and receive a clear TB test prior to employment.

Preferred:
  • Montessori certified.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Bilingual Education, or a related field.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
