Job description

Construction Project Manager - Flooring & Finish Trades Company: Gulf Coast Flooring & Services Location: Houston, TX (On-site) Employment Type: Full-Time

Do you excel at leading simultaneous flooring and finish trade projects from planning through execution with precision and ownership?

As a Project Manager at Gulf Coast Flooring & Services, you will shape project success across commercial flooring scopes by coordinating cross-functional teams, managing subcontractor relationships, and implementing solutions that drive efficiency and client satisfaction. This role is built for someone who knows flooring -- the products, the sequencing, the field realities -- and can lead projects with that expertise at the forefront.

Are You?

HIGHLY SELF-MOTIVATED TO DELIVER EXCEPTIONAL, DETAIL-ORIENTED WORK. You take ownership of project performance and timelines, identifying issues early -- substrate problems, material lead times, installer conflicts -- and delivering solutions before they impact the client.

A RESULTS-DRIVEN LEADER WITH FLOORING AND FINISH TRADE EXPERIENCE. You have hands-on familiarity with commercial flooring scopes (LVP, carpet, tile, hardwood, epoxy, concrete, paint) and lead by example through consistency and accountability, fostering reliability within your team and confidence with your clients.

GROUNDED IN CORE PROJECT MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES AND TRADE KNOWLEDGE. You bring real construction experience to the role and are eager to deepen your expertise within Gulf Coast's specific practices, systems, and client base.

Essential Duties

Within the First 30-60 Days:

  • Learn Gulf Coast's mission, values, and core procedures while completing hands-on JobRunner training to understand project workflows and best practices.
  • Meet with Senior Project Managers to learn best practices in client communication, project financials, contract review, risk management, and field oversight -- with specific focus on flooring and finish trade sequencing.
  • Meet with the AR Billing Manager to learn client onboarding protocols, attend weekly Operations meetings, and build rapport with the COO and APM through 1:1 sessions.
  • Shadow Senior PMs to observe daily responsibilities and gradually assume project management tasks, applying your trade knowledge to accelerate ramp-up.
  • By 30 days, independently own 5-10 small flooring projects.

Within the Next 3-6 Months:

  • Collaborate with the APM by delegating tasks, reviewing flooring submittals, tracking timelines and budgets, and overseeing purchase order coordination in the ERP system.
  • Assume transactional projects with larger budgets -- managing 15-20 active flooring scopes at a time -- while meeting core execution metrics.
  • Lead budget and schedule reviews, strengthen client and GC relationships, and ensure projects stay on track through proactive field oversight and schedule management.

Within 6-12 Months and Ongoing:

  • Manage 40-50 projects across varying stages of planning, execution, and closeout -- primarily flooring and finish trade scopes -- with high accuracy.
  • Maintain clear communication with GCs, clients, and installation crews; resolve field issues proactively using your product and installation knowledge.
  • Support change orders and resource allocation in coordination with Accounting and Sales.
  • By the 12-month mark, be fully proficient in managing projects from award through closeout, with strong relationships across all stakeholders.
  • Meet with the COO for a 12-month performance review to reflect on progress and set future goals.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • Flooring or finish trade project management experience is required. Direct experience managing commercial flooring scopes -- LVP, carpet, tile, hardwood, epoxy, concrete, or paint -- is strongly preferred and will be prioritized in candidate evaluation.
  • 4+ years of project management or trade leadership experience in flooring, finishing trades, general contracting, or a closely related construction field required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple active flooring projects at various stages of completion while maintaining precision, organization, and quality control required.
  • Strong understanding of flooring installation sequences, material lead times, substrate requirements, and subcontractor coordination required.
  • Proven experience in a lead or mentoring role, guiding less tenured team members in project management or construction procedures required.
  • Familiarity with GC environments and the ability to manage multiple trades, timelines, and project scopes simultaneously required.
  • Proven background owning construction documents, budgeting, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination required.
  • Knowledge of commercial flooring products, installation standards, and warranty requirements strongly preferred.
  • Skilled at balancing field operations and administrative oversight, ensuring execution aligns with company standards and client expectations.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field a plus.
  • OSHA 30 certification or commitment to obtaining it a plus.

Working Environment & Benefits

  • Health: Medical / Dental / Vision / Healthcare
  • Well-Being: Paid Time Off / Paid Sick Days / Paid Holidays
  • Financial Wellness: Basic Life and AD&D / Voluntary Term Life
