Job description

Job Type:StaffJob Description:Independently supports and maintains the technology used within the Department and provides training and assistance to faculty, staff, and students in the use and application of the technology. Works cooperatively with the Information Technology department. Interacts with faculty, staff and students in during simulation experiences to enable experiential learning and/or assessment of students' skills. Promote and maintain all departmental duties and responsibilities in accordance with ASPE and SSiH code of ethics and standards of best practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support, maintain, and provide equipment utilized for training in Simulation center
  • Support, maintain, and provide equipment utilized in the Simulated Patient center as needed
  • Support and maintain the Learning Space of video-driven learning and assessment software used in both Simulation and Clinical Exam areas
  • Provide training and assistance to faculty, staff and students in the use and application of the Learning Space Medical suite of software
  • Provide faculty development with the use of simulation, simulation equipment and teaching strategies
  • Manage SP simulation specialists and promote their professional development
  • Utilize simulation methodology for teaching and assessing health professional students
  • Work cooperatively with information technology to ensure all hardware and software is up-to-date
  • Assist with daily administrative operation of the simulation lab
  • Ensure adequate equipment and supplies for simulation activities
  • Work with faculty on case development and rubrics for simulations and debriefs
  • Participates in interviewing and training of simulated patients as needed
  • Monitor student performance during simulations and utilize simulation methodology for teaching and assessing students
  • Maintain departmental inventory and order supplies as necessary
  • Maintain current membership in relevant professional societies
  • Participate in departmental research and publication of results
  • Participate in professional development
  • Participate in community outreach programs
  • Participate on university committees as appointed
  • Communicate with students in a straightforward and positive way
  • Be flexible and have the ability to adapt to quick changes and work in a dynamic environment
  • Maintain a positive attitude and work well with students, staff, and SP colleagues
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the students
  • Represent department and the University favorably and in accordance with established Core Values and expectations
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge and experience gained through employment in a healthcare or clinical setting
  • Three (3) years of experience with hi-fidelity simulation manikins for UME/GME programs using simulation as an educational tool, preferred
  • Facile with center management and manikin software programming
  • CHSOS certified or CHSOS eligible within 2 years
  • Experience in a medical setting, preferred
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills

Highly preferred qualifications:

  • Past experience working specifically in UME/GME. Expertise in center management software
  • Demonstrate advanced computer skills and proficiency

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other equipment including items stored at various levels, including overhead
  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours)
  • Be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Be able to sit or stand for up to four consecutive hours without a break.
  • Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions
