Title: Flex Crew Worker

Location: Facilities Department/Housekeeping Shop

Position Type: Full-time, temporary 3-6 month position

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collects recycling material in dorms and campus buildings and takes to designated containers
  • Move/set up dorm and office furniture
  • Set up/take down tables, chairs, risers, etc., for different activities in accordance with work order instructions
  • Strips, recoats, buffs, dust/wet mops floors
  • Vacuums, extracts, bonnet upholstery furniture and carpeted floors
  • Scrubs floors of indoor Tennis Courts, Gym floors using floor machine
  • Cleans high areas with high lift or tall ladder
  • Cleans windows inside and out
  • Delivers specific quantities of chemical, paper good and other items to selected building from the Facilities Receiving in a timely manner.
  • Delivers/picked up clean/dirty linens from student dormitories and apartments to support college programs
  • Performs pest control
  • Performs Prin Express pick-up and delivery to St. Louis and surrounding areas
  • Swimming Pool Maintenance and Safety, which includes:
    • Doing daily chemical tests and adjustments. Hazardous chemicals are handled, which require the use of a respirator and fit testing for respirators annually
  • Cleaning the pool/spa inside and out
  • Making sure all safety equipment is both in good shape and where it needs to be for our customers, to support the Principia Swim Team program and the Blue & Gold customer program
  • Flex Crew are personnel that are “On-Call” to respond to service emergencies for the pools, should a power outage occur
  • Doing equipment PM's, diagnose, repair, replace, re-build items such as pumps, motors, hoses, filters, chemical feeders, valves
  • Two Flex personnel are trained in confined space work and safety
  • Flex personnel are encouraged to obtain and maintain a State Department of Health and Safety Certified Pool Operators license
  • The Facilities Flex Crew is responsible for the health safety of everyone who uses the pools, therefore: 
    • It is the Flex Crew’s responsibility to decide if the pools are open or closed. The employee’s and Principia’s State licenses and/or the pool State license could be at risk if the right decisions are not made. 
    • If the job is not done correctly, someone could be injured or the State could close the pools down.
  • Performs other such duties that may be assigned
  • Maintains all floor and Housekeeping equipment – doing PM's, diagnosing, repairing, and replacing parts such as electrical motors, pumps, brushes, switches, etc. These tasks help the Facilities budget and also, make sure that this equipment is not gone for long periods of time while it is being repaired somewhere else

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
  • Requires versatility and ability to work in harmony with others.
  • Ability to drive delivery truck safely and efficiently, on or off campus, so as not to injure persons or items being delivered.
  • Understands and complies with the safe use of all equipment in use.
  • Ability to use a 20” machine and other floor equipment.
  • Ability to use high lift and tall ladders up to 60 feet.
  • Must know how to swim

Special Requirements

  • Wears Safety shoes and other safety equipment needed or assigned, including a respirator.
  • Must have a current, and preferably, an infraction-free driver’s license.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, climbing ladders, and using a high lift. Must be able to lift and carry 80 lbs.
  • Pool work – ability to swim
  • Must be able to wear a respirator
