Job description

The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for a Logistics Flex Crew Technician Job: full-time position in the Facilities Management Department for the University of Lynchburg.
This position reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Warehouse & Logistics Manager. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Warehouse & Logistics Manager. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.
Job Purpose: Under general supervision from the Warehouse and Logistics Manager, the Logistics Flex Crew Technician executes the moving items on/off campus, sets up for events, handles surplus inventory/equipment, handles work orders and reports in the work order management system, helps out in other departments within Operations, and performs other duties as assigned. Provides vehicle maintenance,cleanliness control, and updating vehicle records. Provide support related to the Underground Storage Tank ensuring that the University remains in compliance with UST regulations.
Specific Job Duties:
  • Moving, event set-up, and surplus operations to include:
    • Move and set-up furniture and other items from location to location on/ off campus.
    • Setup and breakdown for University events, as requested.
    • Pick up and deliver surplus inventory/property, as requested.
  • Work order system administration duties to include:
    • Create work orders as required.
    • Ensure that all labor and materials are entered correctly in the work order system.
    • Ensure all surplus property is tracked through the work order system.
    • Create reports from the work order system as required.
  • Flex Crew duties include working in areas of the Operations unit, as needed to fill vacant positions, to help with excess work loads and/or to support the overall success of the unit in alignment with the mission of the University.
  • Performs any other related duties as may be required.

Schedule:
  • 7:30 am - 4:30 pm (7.5 hours/day with some evenings and weekends to meet needs of the department may be required

Physical Demands: Tasks require the ability to stand or walk, with occasional sitting, to perform essential job functions. A normal work week is based on 40 hours during normal business hours, but seasonality may require up-to 50+ hours per week with flexibility to include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the University. Must have the ability to lift or otherwise maneuver heavy materials, weighing approximately 70 pounds unassisted. Ability to maneuver items up-to 140 pounds with assistance. Must work well in a high-pressured and fast-paced environment. Some tasks involve climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting. Frequent exposure to varying environmental conditions and construction related noises will occur. Limited regional travel.
Required Qualifications:
  • Considerable understanding of vehicle operating instructions.
  • Basic understanding of or the ability to learn locations and organizational structure of the University.
  • Demonstrates advanced computer skills for the purposes of operating software specific to Facilities Management.
  • Shows professional communications skills for dealing with the students and other employees within the University.
  • Displays the ability to multitask and shift quickly between tasks based on the needs of the University.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand operator's and instruction manuals.
  • Ability to complete projects in a timely manner.

Preferred qualifications:
  • A minimum of two years' experience in a moving or other related position.
  • Proficiency in office and Facilities Management software is preferred.
  • Experience in keeping records is preferred.
  • Ability to successfully handle large workloads.
  • Ability to multitask and change from one task to another without losing focus.
  • Ability to interact with customers, team members and other departments.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record according to University criteria.
