The Opportunity:
The Area Fleet Maintenance Manager will lead and have full performance responsibility for ensuring and maintaining the mission-ready capability of the Northern Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia (DMV) ready-mix fleet. The ideal candidate will have led a similar or larger Fleet Maintenance operation and have the ability to grow into roles of increased responsibility. The DMV ready-mix fleet consists of roughly 500 heavy diesel vehicles and equipment. Responsibilities will include supervision of multiple (11) shops, (4) supervisors, (35+) field mechanics, maintenance administration, evaluation of equipment, training and development of personnel, performance inspections, and leading continuous improvement.
Pay and benefits:
The Area Fleet Maintenance Manager's salary will be based on experience and range from $130,000 to $170,000, inclusive of a regional supplement. The position is eligible for an annual bonus based on the division's financial, safety, and individual key performance goals.

Who You'll Manage:
The Area Fleet Maintenance Manager will directly supervise 4 Maintenance Supervisors. Reporting up through each Supervisor will be several Heavy Equipment/Fleet Mechanics.
Who You'll Work With:
The Area Fleet Maintenance Manager will work directly with and receive support from several department heads and support groups to lead the business unit in achieving industry-leading safety performance and operational excellence. The position will work closely with Operational Leaders, the Safety & HR Group, Support Services & Engineering, and Procurement.
Who You'll Work For:
The Fleet Maintenance Manager will work directly for the Vice President/General Manager of the business unit.
What You'll Do:
Safety & Compliance Leadership
  • Champion Safety Culture: Serve as the primary advocate for a safe and healthy work environment, ensuring all operations strictly adhere to OSHA, FMCSA, and corporate safety standards.
  • Regulatory & Fleet Compliance: Oversee the lifecycle of fleet administration, including licensing, permitting, and the meticulous maintenance of DOT equipment files and compliance records.
  • Field Inspections: Conduct routine site and equipment inspections to verify safety standards and develop actionable plans to address mechanical or operational risks.

Strategic People & Operations Management
  • Multi-Site Oversight: Direct and manage a decentralized team of shop supervisors and field mechanics across multiple locations, ensuring high-quality repair and maintenance activities.
  • Talent Development: Drive employee development through in-field presence, performance dialogues, and in-person engagement; develop specialized training programs for operators and mechanics in partnership with OEMs.
  • Shop & Facility Stewardship: Manage the upkeep of shop equipment and facilities to ensure optimal working conditions and operational readiness.

Fleet Strategy & Capital Support
  • Equipment Evaluation: Advise management on the selection, specification, and application of new and used mobile equipment; collaborate with vendors to ensure equipment meets business unit needs.
  • Lifecycle & Budget Management: Partner with operations leadership to manage fleet availability, coordinate capital replacements, and maintain maintenance costs within budgetary constraints.
  • Vendor & OEM Relations: Cultivate strategic partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and service providers to secure cost-efficient services and stay current on industry updates.

Maintenance & Technical Excellence
  • Asset Reliability & Monitoring: Utilize VisionLink and oil sampling programs to track equipment health; identify trends to execute preventive maintenance, major component replacements, or rebuilds before failure.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Provide expert remote and on-site diagnostic support to facilities to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Data-Driven Reporting: Track all maintenance activities through formal work-order systems; analyze and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to optimize fleet availability.

Administrative & Continuous Improvement
  • Process Optimization: Promote "Best Practices" and continuous improvement initiatives to standardize mobile equipment maintenance across the area.
  • Administrative Oversight: Support shop supervision and fleet admins in managing vendor payments, inventory, personnel paperwork, fuel logs, and truck maintenance records.
  • General Support: Execute additional strategic duties as assigned to support the evolving needs of the operation.Build Your Career. Build America's Future.

  • Experience. The successful candidate will ideally have ten or more years of progressively responsible management experience, specifically including directing mobile equipment preventative maintenance programs and leading and managing teams.
  • Maintenance Knowledge. Must be familiar with reliability-centered maintenance principles.
  • Interpersonal Skills. Must have verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with employees and vendors.
  • Time Management Skills. Must have the ability to manage projects effectively without close supervision.
