Fleet Director Remote information

What are Fleet Directors (Remote)?

Fleet Directors (Remote) are senior-level professionals responsible for overseeing and managing an organization’s fleet operations from a remote location. Their primary duties include supervising vehicle acquisition, maintenance, budgeting, compliance, safety protocols, and team management, often using digital tools and fleet management software. They ensure that the fleet runs efficiently, cost-effectively, and in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements, all while coordinating with drivers, vendors, and other departments remotely.

How does a remote Fleet Director effectively coordinate with on-site teams and drivers?

A remote Fleet Director relies heavily on digital communication tools and fleet management software to maintain visibility over vehicle locations, driver performance, and maintenance schedules. Regular virtual meetings, real-time tracking dashboards, and clear reporting structures help ensure seamless collaboration with on-site managers and drivers. Building strong relationships and setting clear expectations with local teams is key to addressing challenges quickly and keeping fleet operations running smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fleet Director (Remote), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fleet Director (Remote), you need expertise in fleet management, logistics, and operations, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field. Familiarity with fleet management software, telematics systems, and regulatory compliance tools is essential. Exceptional leadership, strategic planning, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart. These abilities ensure efficient fleet operations, cost control, and strong team performance across dispersed locations.

What is the difference between Fleet Director Remote vs Fleet Manager?

The main difference between Fleet Director Remote and Fleet Manager lies in their scope and seniority. Fleet Directors typically focus on strategic planning and high-level oversight remotely, while Fleet Managers handle day-to-day operations, often on-site. Both roles require similar credentials, but Fleet Directors operate at a higher level within the organization, especially in large companies or logistics firms.

Job description

Who We Are
AeroVect is transforming ground handling with autonomy, redefining how airlines and ground service providers around the globe run day-to-day operations. We are a Series A company backed by top-tier venture capital investors in aviation and autonomous driving. Our customers include some of the world's largest airlines and ground handling providers. For more information, visit www.aerovect.com.
The Sr. PMT for Fleet Operations is responsible for defining the strategy, roadmap, and development of products that enable AeroVect's Autonomous Ground Support Equipment (AGSE) vehicles to operate safely and reliably at scale. This role will define and build the remote assistance infrastructure, dispatch systems, and fleet monitoring tooling that the AeroVect AGSE Service depends on to scale reliably.
This role requires a unique blend of user-centric product thinking, technical fluency, and strong communication skills to drive the creation of reliable and scalable fleet operations products. The PMT will translate the real-world needs of airline/airport customers and internal operators into a clear, prioritized product roadmap. The PMT is expected to decompose user needs into high-level system design and clear requirements that engineering teams can execute against. Delivery against the roadmap will require strong cross-functional collaboration with UX, infrastructure, autonomy, and operations teams to ensure that products are intuitive and reliable.
You Will
  • Define and own the Fleet Operations product strategy and roadmap
    • Manage a multi-surface product roadmap spanning remote assistance, dispatch, and fleet management
    • Serve as the voice of the customer by continuously gathering and synthesizing feedback from airline/airport customers and internal operators to inform priorities
    • Scope phased product milestones that unlock value and provide instrumentation to enable data-driven iterative development over time
  • Drive technical execution across real-time and infrastructure-heavy systems
    • Partner with Systems Engineering to decompose product needs into system requirements, test plans, and acceptance criteria
    • Participate in system design discussions with Infrastructure teams - ensure technical architectures are aligned with product needs and operational realities
    • Work with Program Management to ensure roadmap commitments are tracked, blockers are surfaced early, and dependencies are known
    • Prioritize the product backlog, balancing new features, technical debt, and bug fixes to ensure efficient development
  • Provide cross-functional leadership
    • Serve as the primary Point of Contact and Subject Matter Expert for Fleet Operations products
    • Communicate product vision and status to stakeholders, including senior leadership, engineering, operations, and external customers
    • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise language for non-technical audiences
You Have
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of product management experience owning technically complex products end-to-end
  • Experience building operator-facing or operational tooling in environments where reliability and real-time performance are non-negotiable
  • Proven ability to ship 0 → 1 products in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority
We Prefer
  • Experience building teleoperations, remote assistance, or fleet management products
  • Strong understanding of software development, system architecture, and cloud infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with infrastructure teams - you can read system design documents, reason about real-time system constraints, and push back on technical decisions that don't serve product goals
  • Background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or safety-critical systems
  • Understanding of dispatch, routing, and resource allocation systems
  • Familiarity with airport/airline operations or large-scale fleet operations
