Job description

Financial Operations Accountant

Reporting to the Financial Operations Manager, the Financial Operations Accountant is responsible for supporting both general and technical accounting functions, including accounts payable, cash management, reconciliations, reporting, and financial analysis. This role is for a current vacancy.

What will you do?

General Accounting

  • Process and record accounts payable transactions, ensuring invoices and employee reimbursements are accurate and compliant with finance policies
  • Perform account reconciliations including bank accounts, prepaid expenses, and claims
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation
  • Prepare and review accruals in collaboration with business stakeholders
  • Assists in preparation of monthly regulatory listing report
  • Booking of investment FX fluctuations and other income
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes

Technical Accounting & Cash Operations

  • Reconcile balances against client reports and investigate discrepancies to ensure proper allocation
  • Communicate and investigate account balance discrepancies with clients
  • Review and analyze client data (e.g., premiums, claims, commissions)
  • Develop effective relationships with ATE operations for continuous collaboration
  • Check coverage against claim reimbursements
  • Ensure accurate entry of technical accounting data into technical system

Operational Support & Controls

  • Process monthly bordereaux reports received from business partners
  • Review the bordereau reports to ensure accuracy of the data and flag any inconsistencies
  • Resolve weekly Unallocated Cash (UAC) balances in collaboration with business partners as required
  • Create and process the corresponding bordereau for aged unallocated cash balances
  • Policyholder sanction checking software alerts handling
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules to support finance team
  • Assist in maintaining and improving accounting procedures and internal controls
  • Support audit activities by preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests
  • Ad hoc reporting for internal management
  • Ensure adherence to records management and documentation standards

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance or a related quantitative field
  • University degree or college diploma and general accounting courses required
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience preferred, with exposure to insurance as an asset.
  • Basic level accounting experience (insurance industry experience is an asset)
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles and processes
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office 365
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
