Job description

Full-Charge Bookkeeper / Accounting ManagerThe Morton Company, LLC - Tucson, Arizona

$55,000-$70,000 per year, depending on experience

Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week | On-Site | 4-Day Workweek | Benefits Starting Day 1

Take Ownership of the Books -- and Enjoy a Better Workweek

The Morton Company, LLC is seeking an experienced Full-Charge Bookkeeper / Accounting Manager to take ownership of accounting, payroll, financial reporting, and related administrative functions for our three collision repair centers and associated supporting businesses in Tucson.

This is not an entry-level bookkeeping position.

We are looking for an experienced accounting professional who knows how to run the books from beginning to end--not simply enter transactions.

The right Teammate will oversee multiple business entities, maintain accurate financial records, manage payroll and reconciliations, produce monthly and year-end financial statements, coordinate tax and employment-related filings, manage vendor payments, and work directly with company ownership, our Controller, third-party CPA/CFO, HR provider, banks, vendors, and other business partners.

One of the major benefits of this position is a four-day workweek. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position designed to provide a consistent three-day weekend.

What You'll Own

You will be responsible for accounting and bookkeeping functions for three collision repair centers and their associated businesses, including:

  • Maintain complete and accurate books using QuickBooks Enterprise
  • Manage accounting across multiple companies and business entities
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Reconcile vendor invoices, statements, credits, and payments
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
  • Process weekly payroll and maintain accurate payroll records
  • Prepare, coordinate, and/or file required payroll tax filings
  • Coordinate business tax filings and compliance requirements
  • Manage vendor payments using company credit cards, ACH, bank bill pay, and electronic payment services
  • Maintain vendor records, W-9s, and 1099 reporting
  • Handle new-hire, onboarding, termination, and offboarding paperwork
  • Coordinate with our third-party HR company
  • Administer and coordinate the company's 401(k) program
  • Work directly with our Controller and third-party CPA/CFO
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures
  • Produce accurate month-end and year-end financial statements
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Maintain appropriate accounting controls and procedures
  • Improve and streamline accounting processes
Financial Statement Responsibility

An important part of this position is producing accurate and timely month-end and year-end financial statements.

For our larger operating companies, you will work with our Controller and third-party CPA/CFO to complete month-end and year-end financial reporting.

For our smaller associated businesses, you will independently complete the books and produce appropriate financial statements without outside accounting assistance.

You should be comfortable preparing, analyzing, and reviewing:

  • Profit & Loss Statements
  • Balance Sheets
  • Cash Flow Statements
  • General Ledger Reports
  • Trial Balances
  • Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Reports
  • Other financial and management reports requested by ownership

We want someone who understands the accounting behind the financial statements--not simply someone who knows which button to push in QuickBooks.

QuickBooks Enterprise Expertise Is Required

Expert-level QuickBooks Enterprise experience is a requirement.

You should have strong command of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and credit card reconciliation, invoice reconciliation, payroll accounting, journal entries, accruals and adjusting entries, month-end and year-end close, financial statement preparation, and multi-company or multi-location accounting.

If you're the person others come to when they can't figure something out in QuickBooks, that's the proficiency we're looking for.

Technology, AI & Process Improvement

The Morton Company believes technology should make great Teammates more productive.

We are specifically interested in someone comfortable using AI, automation, and modern technology to improve accounting and administrative processes.

This could include reducing repetitive work, improving accounting workflows, assisting with reconciliation and discrepancy research, creating repeatable procedures, improving reporting, automating appropriate routine tasks, and finding more efficient ways to accomplish existing processes.

We want someone who looks at an inefficient process and thinks, "There has to be a better way to do this."

Accuracy, financial controls, confidentiality, and security always come first--but efficiency matters too.

CCC ONE / Collision Industry Experience

Our collision centers use CCC ONE as our collision management platform.

Previous CCC ONE experience is highly preferred but not required for an otherwise exceptional candidate. If you have the accounting and QuickBooks Enterprise expertise we're looking for, we can provide CCC ONE training.

Collision repair, automotive, dealership, multi-location, construction, trades, or similar accounting experience is beneficial.

Required Qualifications
  • Expert-level QuickBooks Enterprise proficiency
  • Significant full-charge bookkeeping or comparable accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles
  • Financial statement preparation experience
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable experience
  • Advanced bank, credit card, invoice, and vendor reconciliation skills
  • Payroll processing and payroll tax experience
  • Month-end and year-end close experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to manage multiple companies, locations, accounts, and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership
  • Ability to identify, research, and resolve discrepancies
  • Strong computer, technology, and communication skills
  • Ability to work on-site in Tucson, Arizona
Preferred Qualifications
  • CCC ONE or collision/automotive accounting experience
  • Multi-location or multi-entity accounting experience
  • 401(k) administration experience
  • Experience working with outside CPAs, CFOs, payroll providers, and HR companies
  • Experience improving accounting processes using AI and automation
Compensation, Schedule & Benefits$55,000-$70,000 Per Year

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and ability to independently manage the position.

Most benefits begin on Day 1, including medical coverage and PTO.

Teammate Benefits
  • 4-Day Workweek
  • Medical Insurance - The Morton Company pays 50% of the Teammate's premium
  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • AD&D Insurance
  • 401(k) with Employer Match
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid Training
  • Paid Continuing Education (CE) Classes

We believe continuing education is an investment in our Teammates and our businesses.

Flexible Schedule

Our preferred arrangement is a four-day workweek with Mondays off, providing a consistent three-day weekend.

We are flexible for the right Teammate. Another possible arrangement is beginning Monday afternoon and finishing around noon on Friday.

We're more interested in finding an exceptional accounting professional and ensuring the work is completed accurately and on time than forcing the right person into a traditional Monday-through-Friday schedule.

This is an on-site position in Tucson and is not remote.

Who Will Thrive Here?

We're looking for someone who takes ownership.

You take pride in knowing the books are accurate, current, reconciled, and complete. You enjoy solving discrepancies, creating order, improving systems, meeting deadlines, and providing ownership with financial information they can rely upon.

You can operate independently while knowing when something should be elevated to ownership, our Controller, or CPA.

You're comfortable with technology, willing to learn, and naturally look for ways to make processes better.

Most importantly, we're looking for a long-term Teammate who wants to become an important part of our organization.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume along with a brief description of your experience with QuickBooks Enterprise, full-charge bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, payroll, reconciliations, multi-company accounting, CCC ONE or automotive accounting, and AI or automation tools.
