Description
University College at Arizona State University invites applications for Explore Faculty Associates for the 2026-2027 academic year. The successful candidate(s) will be selected to teach courses in the Explore program:
  • ASU101-UC - The ASU Experience
  • ASU 230 - Life by Design
  • UNI 250 - Designing Your ASU Experience
  • UNI 270 - Work by Design: Preparing for a Career

The Explore program is designed to help learners build and tell their own stories so they can gain important insights, forge meaningful connections, and differentiate themselves in an ever-changing job market. Courses in the Explore program support storytelling through the learning of design thinking steps and developing key mindsets to help students find ways to their academic, professional and personal futures. Specifically, learners engage in exploration of self-interests, values and skills while reflecting on past experiences and engaging in experiential learning opportunities to shape their future after graduation.
Faculty Associates will be part of the Explore team that focuses on holistic support of learners and their success. Thus, this role will have an active and pivotal role in student success, persistence and retention initiatives. Successful candidates should have excellent facilitation skills, be passionate and curious about working with college students, and have a growth mindset.
Explore faculty work includes three major areas of practice: policies/preparation, student engagement, and pedagogy. Explore faculty will participate in pre-semester training, follow program policies, and engage in our ongoing community of practice. Faculty work to engage students in coursework through building relationships and participating in the Explore program supports and activities. The pedagogical practices center on active learning in the classroom, promoting personal application of and reflection on course content, and thoughtful, personalized feedback on assignments.
Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of .40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in related field, at time of appointment
  • Evidence of excellent facilitation/teaching/student support ability
  • Excellent English written and spoken communication skills

Desired Qualifications
  • Terminal Degree in a related field
  • Two years evidence of teaching at a post-secondary institution; or four years evidence of experience in student support services at a post-secondary institution
  • Demonstrated success meeting the needs of student populations with varied backgrounds and cultures
  • Experience applying, utilizing or teaching design thinking, career development approaches and/or student success strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Essential Functions
  • Teach Assigned Course(s): Deliver course content effectively and engage students in learning.
  • Complete Onboarding & Training: Participate in all required preparation activities before teaching.
  • Attend Faculty Office Hours: Be available weekly to support students and engage in course feedback discussions.
  • Manage Canvas Course Shell: Maintain course materials, announcements, and communication within the learning platform.
  • Grade Assignments & Provide Feedback: Evaluate student work promptly and offer constructive, actionable feedback.
  • Respond to Student Inquiries: Answer questions and provide guidance in a timely and supportive manner.
  • Support Student Development: Encourage and assist students in their academic, career, and personal growth.
  • Follow Department Protocols: Adhere to established procedures for addressing student care and support concerns.
  • Submit Final Grades: Ensure grades are submitted accurately and on time by the designated deadline.
