Gift of Life Donor Program is the non-profit, federally-designated organ procurement organization, serving 11.3 million people across the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware. This position supports efforts designed to increase public awareness of and commitment to organ and tissue donation and transplantation. You will represent the nation’s leading organ donor program, which coordinates more life-saving transplants than any program in the country. One organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people, and a tissue donor can enhance the lives of up to 100 others. For more information, visit www.donors1.org

Position Description:

Under the supervision of the Field Instructor, the Family Support Services ("FSS") co-op is responsible for supporting all aspects of Gift of Life’s Family Support Services program, the after-care support services program of the area’s Organ and Tissue Transplant Network in conjunction with the fulltime counselor. The FSS Intern maintains programming and support services to assist the families of organ and tissue donors after the death of a loved one, and performs miscellaneous related duties and other duties as assigned. 1. Fulfills Donor Recognition Kit ("DRK") requests--Obtains daily DRK requests. Personalizes DRKs as per family request and send via UPS. DRKs are personalized displays for the funerals or memorial services for donor families. 2. Makes initial and ongoing outreach contact in a timely manner demonstrating multiple and reasonable attempts to reach the family. Assesses the unique bereavement needs of the donor family. Researches and identifies appropriate community support options. 3. Acts as liaison between donor families and transplant recipients. Reads donor family and recipient correspondence for confidentiality concerns. 4. Represents FSS with donor families, transplant centers and general public. Answers questions, reviews concerns, responds to requests donor families, transplant centers and Organ Procurement Organizations who call Gift of Life spontaneously. 5. Research and refer donor family to outside agency or therapist for non-grief related counseling. 6. Participate in 3-4 bereavement support group meetings in collaboration with FSS counselor. Meetings (zoom or in person). 7. Social Media Monitoring and Engagement-Serve as administrator for private Donor Family Facebook group. Post meaningful content and engage with group members. Assist new members with registering for the group. 8. Assess team's counseling availability each month. Schedule and complete intake assessments for new counseling clients. Assign clients to FSS Counselors for counseling.

• College student majoring in social work, counseling psychology, or other related field • Professional writing and interpersonal communications skills • Experience working in a professional office environment • The ability to travel and work throughout the Gift of Life service area for special events • Microsoft Office competencies including Excel and PowerPoint • Must be able to bend, twist, lift and climb to set up a variety of displays, lift materials weighing 30 pounds and stand/sit for long periods of time • Employer will discuss hybrid work possibility with candidates during interview process • Minimal travel within Philadelphia to attend events
