Job description

The State Historical Society of North Dakota tells the diverse stories of North Dakota to educate and entertain visitors. This is a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic team of passionate professionals that manages the state museum's exhibits. Currently, a new Military Gallery is under construction at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum. The gallery will highlight the stories of North Dakota in the military and the military in North Dakota. The position is located at the North Dakota Heritage Center and State Museum in Bismarck, ND.
Job Duration: The Military Gallery Exhibit Project Manager will work 20 hours per week (flexible scheduling available). The position is funded through November 2027.
Summary of Work
This position coordinates and manages the internal workflow for content and development of the Military Gallery exhibit. They will help keep timelines, tasks, and deliverables on track while supporting clear communication, organization, and accountability across the team, serving as a hub for all internal and external stakeholders involved in the development of the exhibits in the Military Gallery.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Develop, implement, and manage internal project management workflows, including establishing and enforcing roles, responsibilities, timelines, tasks, and deadlines.
  • Facilitate meetings with agendas, outcomes, and assigned actions across all State Historical Society teams (Administration, Archaeology & Historic Preservation, Audience Engagement & Museums, and State Archives).
  • Manage, track, and submit all content and production deliverables to appropriate entities in accordance with determined timelines.
  • Serve as liaison between external stakeholders and the exhibit team on exhibit related items.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public administration, project management, business administration, or a related field, with at least three (3) years of project coordination or project management experience; or at least ten (10) years of related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large scale projects with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google suite for data management and collaboration, including Teams and Planner, and project management software.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Project management certification, such as PMP or CAPM
  • Experience working with large scale production schedules
  • Experience managing large projects in a history focused organization
