Legal Nurse Consultant (Nurse Paralegal)
Location: Cleveland, OH
Schedule: Hybrid (2 days in office / 3 days remote)
A respected Cleveland defense litigation practice is seeking an experienced Legal Nurse Consultant (Nurse Paralegal) to support its medical‐related litigation teams. This role is ideal for an RN who excels at analyzing clinical information, translating medical data into clear legal work product, and collaborating closely with attorneys on complex cases.
About the Role
The Legal Nurse Consultant will review medical records, prepare detailed chronologies, identify standards of care issues, and provide clinical insight across medical malpractice, personal injury, and insurance defense matters. You’ll play a key role in case strategy, expert coordination, and trial preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, interpret, and summarize medical records, diagnostic reports, and treatment histories
- Prepare medical chronologies, timelines, and injury summaries
- Identify missing or inconsistent records and coordinate retrieval
- Provide clinical insight on diagnoses, causation, standards of care, and treatment protocols
- Assist attorneys with deposition preparation and expert witness coordination
- Draft memoranda, case summaries, and medical issue analyses
- Conduct medical research related to conditions, procedures, and standards of care
- Support litigation teams during hearings, mediations, and trial preparation
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience (ICU, ER, med‐surg, or similar preferred)
- Prior experience as a Legal Nurse Consultant or Nurse Paralegal strongly preferred
- Strong analytical skills and ability to translate medical information into clear legal summaries
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort with legal/medical software systems
