Executive Development information

What is executive development?

Executive development refers to the process of preparing and enhancing the skills, knowledge, and abilities of individuals in leadership positions within an organization. This can involve formal training programs, coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job experiences designed to help executives lead more effectively. The goal is to ensure that leaders are equipped to drive organizational success, adapt to changing business environments, and manage teams efficiently. Executive development is crucial for succession planning and maintaining a competitive edge in the market.

What jobs make around $100,000 a year?

In executive development, roles such as senior managers, directors, and vice presidents often earn around $100,000 or more annually, especially with experience and industry certifications. Other high-paying jobs include specialized consultants, project managers, and certain financial or IT leadership positions, which typically require strong leadership skills and advanced education.

What are some typical challenges faced in an Executive Development role, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Executive Development often encounter challenges such as aligning leadership programs with evolving organizational goals, engaging busy executives in ongoing learning, and measuring the impact of development initiatives. To address these, it’s important to maintain strong communication with senior leaders, tailor programs to specific business needs, and use robust metrics to track outcomes. Collaborating closely with HR, business unit leaders, and external partners can also help ensure initiatives remain relevant and effective.

In contrast, Corporate Trainers focus on skill-building for employees at various levels, utilizing training certifications and delivering workshops or online courses. While both roles aim to enhance workforce capabilities, their target audiences and work environments differ significantly.

What jobs will no longer exist in 2030?

By 2030, roles heavily reliant on routine manual tasks, such as data entry clerks and assembly line workers, are expected to decline due to automation and AI advancements. Executive development professionals may see shifts in leadership training roles as organizations adopt new digital tools and virtual learning environments, but core leadership positions will continue to evolve rather than disappear.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Executive Development, and why are they important?

To excel in Executive Development, you need a strong background in leadership theory, talent management, and organizational behavior, often supported by a degree in business or human resources. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), assessment tools, and certifications such as SHRM or HRCI is highly beneficial. Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills help drive effective leadership programs and foster executive growth. These capabilities are crucial for shaping future leaders, aligning talent strategies with business goals, and ensuring long-term organizational success.

Job description

Executive Assistant Terre Haute, Indiana

Be the force behind executive excellence.

At Thompson Thrift, we're looking for a highly organized, polished, and proactive Executive Assistant to support senior leaders and help drive day-to-day operational success. This is more than an administrative support role — it is an opportunity to serve as a trusted partner to executive leadership, helping the business stay organized, responsive, and moving forward.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced professional environment, communicates with confidence, handles sensitive information with discretion, and brings a high level of ownership to every task. If you are known for anticipating needs, solving problems before they arise, and keeping leaders focused on what matters most, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact every day.

Why Thompson Thrift?
Thompson Thrift is an integrated, full-service real estate company engaged in the development, construction, leasing, and management of high-quality multifamily communities nationwide. We're committed to building exceptional places — and developing the people who make them possible.

At Thompson Thrift, you'll find:

  • Values-Driven Culture — Excellence, Service, and Leadership guide everything we do
  • Career Growth — Training, mentorship, and long-term development opportunities
  • Work-Life Support — Competitive benefits, flexibility, and wellness programs
  • Real Impact — Hands-on involvement in industry-leading multifamily projects

Your Role as an Executive Assistant

As an Executive Assistant, you will provide high-level administrative support to executive leadership, helping them operate efficiently and effectively in support of company goals. You will be a key partner in keeping priorities on track, communications organized, and important initiatives moving forward.

This role requires exceptional judgment, professionalism, flexibility, and attention to detail. You will manage competing priorities, coordinate meetings and communications, prepare reports and presentations, support special projects, and represent leadership with a high degree of professionalism in both internal and external interactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level administrative support to senior leaders and executive team members
  • Manage calendars, coordinate meetings, and help prioritize schedules and shifting business needs
  • Prepare, update, and distribute reports, presentations, correspondence, and other key business materials
  • Draft professional emails, letters, memos, and communications on behalf of leadership
  • Coordinate meetings, agendas, materials, invitations, and follow-up items for internal and external gatherings
  • Serve as a point of contact for visitors, business partners, and internal team members, ensuring a professional and welcoming experience
  • Support special projects such as budgeting, market research, hiring coordination, social media initiatives, and corporate responsibility efforts
  • Maintain organized electronic files, records, company documents, and correspondence
  • Handle confidential information with discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism
  • Provide back-up support to other executive assistants or office support team members as needed
  • Help foster a collaborative, service-oriented team environment through strong communication and leadership by example

Our Ideal Candidate for this Role

  • Education
    • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
      Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in an administrative assistant or executive assistant role
    • Experience supporting high-level executives strongly preferred

Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading and professional business writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and work effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • High level of discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and other administrative tools
  • Ability to think strategically, solve problems, and proactively recommend solutions
  • Adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable navigating changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to delivering outstanding service to internal leaders, team members, and external partners
  • Leadership mindset with the ability to mentor, guide, or support other administrative professionals

Why This Role Matters

The Executive Assistant plays a critical role in helping executive leadership stay focused, prepared, and productive. By bringing structure to busy schedules, professionalism to key communications, and consistency to day-to-day operations, this role directly supports organizational effectiveness and business success. For someone who enjoys being a trusted partner, creating order, and making a meaningful impact behind the scenes, this is an exciting opportunity to build a rewarding career with a respected and growing organization!
