Job description

Overview:

Working at Atlassian

Atlassians can choose where they work โ€“ whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.

As the Head of Event Technology, you will lead Atlassianโ€™s global Event Technology function, setting the vision, strategy, and operating model for how we design and deliver event technology across the company.

You will lead through a team of senior managers and expert agency partners, and partner closely with Events, Marketing, Sales, IT/Security, Legal, Data Science, external agencies and platform partners/vendors. Your work will shape how Atlassian shows up at scale to customers, partners, and candidates worldwide, and will play a critical role in achieving our broader marketing and company objectives.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Set the multi-year vision and strategy for Atlassianโ€™s event technology ecosystem, ensuring it ladders up to event, marketing and sales priorities.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing Event Technology team, providing clarity of direction, coaching, and growth opportunities across the team.

  • Direct the event technology roadmap across Atlassianโ€™s global event portfolio, including vendor/platform strategy (e.g., registration, content/session management, mobile app, onsite technology, lead retrieval, networking, virtual/hybrid extensions) and internal build/buy decisions.

  • Own critical event technology outcomes for the broader Events and Marketing organization (and in some cases, Atlassian as a whole), balancing innovation, reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.

  • Architect and govern data pipelines and integrations in partnership with Data Science and MarTech across the event technology stack and key internal systems (e.g., Salesforce and other marketing and sales technologies), ensuring accurate, timely, and secure data flows for reporting, personalization, and follow-up

  • Define and uphold standards for privacy, security, and compliance across all event technology platforms, partnering with Legal, IT/Security, and Privacy teams to operationalize GDPR and other global regulations at scale.

  • Oversee end-to-end onsite and hybrid technology operations for flagship events, including check-in, access control, scanning, networking, Wi-Fi dependencies, and contingency planning, ensuring consistently exceptional attendee and sponsor experiences.

  • Lead relationships with agencies and technology vendors, including contract strategy and negotiation in partnership with Sourcing (SOWs, platform licensing), governance, performance management, and optimization of usage and total cost of ownership.

  • Champion experimentation, automation, and innovation within the event tech stack, piloting new capabilities (e.g., personalization, AI, data products, or new engagement formats) and scaling successful approaches globally.

  • Establish and track success metrics for event technology (e.g., reliability, adoption, engagement, conversion, and operational efficiency), and use insights to inform investment decisions and continuous improvement.

  • Influence and align senior stakeholders across Events, Marketing, Channel, Sales, and other functions on event technology strategy, trade-offs, and roadmap priorities, effectively communicating complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Represent Atlassianโ€™s event technology vision and practices internally and, where appropriate, externally with partners and in the broader industry, contributing to Atlassianโ€™s thought leadership in modern event experiences.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • 12+ years of enterprise event technology or closely related experience; must include substantial in-house hands-on ownership of large-scale, global event program technology.

  • 5+ years leading and developing a team in a fast-paced environment, with a proven focus on people development, succession planning, and team engagement.

  • Proven experience setting strategy and leading the technology function for global, complex event portfolios, including both in-person and virtual/hybrid programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders, including Events, Marketing Ops, Sales Ops, Data Science, IT/Security, Legal, Finance, and agencies and vendors across all levels, to drive alignment and successful execution.

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, challenge existing processes, and drive continuous improvement to enhance efficiency, quality, and business results at a departmental or multi-team level.

  • Direct, hands-on experience with enterprise-grade event technologies such as RainFocus, Cvent, Swoogo, JiffleNow, Eventbase, and comparable platforms, including strategy, implementation, and optimization; for large user conferences in particular.

  • Demonstrated rigor in QA, ticket/incident management, vendor management, documentation standards, and operational excellence at scale.

  • Experience driving technology implementation, innovation and automation in event environments, with measurable impact on attendee experience and/or pipeline outcomes.

  • Deep understanding of global privacy and data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and practical experience designing compliant processes and controls across multiple platforms and regions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading event technology or related functions in a mid-sized enterprise SaaS company.

  • Demonstrated success leading through other leaders and teams and scaling teams across regions or time zones.

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, including the ability to define and interpret KPIs, build business cases, and inform investment decisions.

  • Familiarity working with Salesforce and adjacent marketing and sales technologies to connect event engagement with pipeline and revenue outcomes.
