Position Description:
Granville Homes is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of our homebuilding and land development business. This position is responsible for financial reporting, general ledger accounting, month-end close, account reconciliations, budgeting support, and internal controls. The role serves as a key accounting partner to operations and leadership, with a strong emphasis on cost accounting, purchasing analysis, job costing, work-in-process (WIP) reporting, land development accounting, inventory valuation and profitability analysis.
Essential Functions/Accountabilities:
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly financial statements.
- Lead assigned portions of the month-end and year-end close process.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules.
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances from budget and forecast.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Maintain and analyze job costs for land development and vertical construction projects.
- Monitor direct costs, subcontractor costs, materials, labor, and overhead allocations and purchasing-related expenditures.
- Prepare and review work-in-process (WIP) schedules and project profitability reports.
- Track lot development costs and ensure accurate capitalization and allocation of costs. Assist with inventory valuation, cost allocations, and margin analysis.
- Analyze budget-to-actual performance for communities, projects, and departments.
- Partner with Construction, Purchasing, Land Development, and Operations teams to improve cost visibility and controls.
- Review purchasing commitments, contracts, change orders, and cost trends to ensure accurate cost capture and reporting.
- Analyze purchasing variances, vendor pricing, rebates, and procurement-related costs impacting project profitability.
- Monitor and report on land acquisition, entitlement, site development, and infrastructure costs to ensure proper accounting treatment and project cost allocation.
- Support forecasting and budgeting efforts related to land development, purchasing activities, and vertical construction costs.
- Provide detailed cost analysis by community, phase, lot, and product line to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Evaluate cost trends and identify opportunities for improved purchasing efficiency, cost containment, and margin enhancement
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes.
- Prepare management reports and key performance indicators for executive leadership.
- Assist with external audits, tax compliance, lender reporting, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.
- Participate in ERP system enhancements, implementations, and process automation initiatives.
- Mentor and support staff accountants and accounting team members.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- This is a full-time at-ill position, and work hours are typically Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work as required as department needs demand.
Travel:
- Travel is primarily local during the business day.

Minimum Requirements:
- Four-year degree (Bachelorโs degree) in accounting required;
- CPA designation or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills amp; Abilities
- 5+ related accounting experience, with specific experience in multi-entity consolidations.
- Strong cost accounting and financial reporting experience required.
Experience in homebuilding, construction, land development, real estate development, or a related industry strongly preferred. - Experience with job costing, inventory accounting, and WIP reporting preferred.
- Experience supporting purchasing, procurement, land development, or construction operations strongly preferred.
- Experience with project costing, community-level profitability analysis, and cost allocation methodologies preferred.
- Experience supporting residential homebuilding operations.
- Knowledge of lot inventory management and land development cost tracking.
- Experience analyzing community-level profitability and construction margins.
- Experience working closely with Purchasing and Land Development departments to support operational decision-making and cost control initiatives.
