Job description

At Big Blue Swim School, we believe every child deserves a confident, capable relationship with the water. We are looking for an experienced Swim Coach to join our team - someone who brings deep knowledge of competitive swim team techniques, understands swim culture and etiquette, and is passionate about helping young athletes reach their full potential.

This is more than a coaching role. You'll be a mentor, motivator, and model of professionalism for our students and their families. If you're ready to make a lasting difference in the pool, we'd love to meet you.

Swim Coach Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Minimum 2 years of competitive swimming experience (club, high school, or collegiate level preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of competitive swim strokes, starts, turns, and race strategy
  • Familiarity with swim team etiquette, meet protocols, and team culture
  • USA Swimming or equivalent coaching certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
  • Current Lifeguard/CPR Certification required (can be obtained during onboarding at Big Blue)
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with swimmers, parents, and staff
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and remain on your feet for extended periods
  • Ability to work in and around the water for 15–25 hours per week
  • Availability to work weeknights and at least one weekend day

Swim Coach Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver structured coaching sessions aligned with Big Blue's curriculum and competitive swim team development goals
  • Instruct swimmers in proper technique for all four competitive strokes, as well as starts, turns, and finishes
  • Foster a positive, competitive, and inclusive team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship and swim etiquette
  • Evaluate swimmer progress regularly and maintain accurate records using approved performance criteria
  • Communicate professionally and proactively with swimmers and families regarding progress, goals, and upcoming events
  • Adhere to all aquatic safety guidelines and emergency procedures at all times
  • Assist with front desk responsibilities and help maintain a clean, safe facility
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and coaching training as scheduled
  • Represent Big Blue Swim School with a high level of professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm
  • Other duties as assigned
