About POTS

Part of the Solution (POTS) offers an array of comprehensive and personalized services to fight poverty and hunger in The Bronx, at no cost to clients. Annually, POTS serves more than 35,000 people, including 12,000 children. Our services are organized around three programmatic pillars: a Dignity and Wellness Program provides shower, mail, haircut and medical and dental services; a Food Security Program offers hot meals and groceries; and a Long-Term Stability Program provides guidance on applications for public benefits and mentoring for long-term personal growth.

About the position

The Part-Time ESOL Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of POTS' English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. Working under the supervision of the ESOL Coordinator, the ESOL Assistant helps recruit and enroll participants, maintain attendance records, support assessments, communicate with students, and assist with program events and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, enroll, and orient new ESOL participants, including maintaining waitlists and conducting participant intake.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, participant records, and program data; conduct outreach to participants to support retention and consistent attendance.
  • Assist with CASAS testing, participant-teacher conferences, and other assessment and reporting requirements.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for participants, answering questions about classes, schedules, materials, and available resources.
  • Support classroom operations by preparing and distributing materials and supplies.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of graduation ceremonies, orientations, and other ESOL program events.
  • Provide general administrative support and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required and
  • Commitment to POTS's mission and values
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in data entry and record-keeping
  • Comfortable using database systems and basic office technology
  • Warm, patient, and professional in interactions with participants, staff, and community members
  • Experience working with immigrant or low-income communities preferred
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative while keeping the ESOL Coordinator informed
  • Must be available evenings and weekends
