What are ESG interns?

ESG interns are entry-level professionals who assist organizations in implementing strategies related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. Their responsibilities often include conducting research, analyzing sustainability data, preparing reports, and supporting ESG initiatives. Is ESG high paying?

ESG internships and entry-level ESG roles typically offer lower salaries compared to senior or specialized positions in finance or consulting. However, full-time ESG analyst or manager roles can be well-paying, especially with experience and relevant certifications like CFA or SASB. Compensation varies by industry, location, and company size.

Is 22 too old for an internship?

To thrive as an ESG Intern, you need a solid understanding of environmental, social, and governance concepts, often supported by coursework in sustainability, business, or related fields. Familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks (like GRI or SASB), data analysis tools (such as Excel), and research platforms is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude help you excel in stakeholder engagement and collaborative projects. These skills are vital for supporting ESG initiatives, ensuring accurate reporting, and contributing to a company's responsible business practices.

What types of projects and tasks can an ESG Intern expect to work on during their internship?

As an ESG Intern, you can expect to support various sustainability and corporate responsibility projects, such as collecting and analyzing ESG data, assisting with sustainability reporting, and researching industry best practices. You'll often collaborate with different departments, like compliance, communications, and operations, to help integrate ESG initiatives across the organization. Interns may also participate in stakeholder engagement activities and help prepare presentations or reports for internal or external audiences. This exposure provides valuable insights into ESG frameworks and practical experience working in multidisciplinary teams.

Benefits of Working for Woodstream:

    • 401k with Company Match
    • Paid Internship

Overview of the Role:

Are you ready to make a real impact on global supply chain? We are seeking a driven, curious, and analytically minded Global Sourcing Summer Intern to join our Strategic Sourcing team. This is not a passive, observe-from-the-sidelines internship -- you will be a contributing member of a high-performing team managing a $50-70 million annual spend portfolio across domestic and international suppliers.
You will work directly alongside experienced sourcing professionals to evaluate supplier lead times, build and analyze RFQ packages, log and track pricing data, and support quality monitoring through our ProTrack platform. Equally important, this role is designed for someone who is excited about the future of procurement -- including the application of AI tools, intelligent agents, and data-driven automation that are reshaping how modern sourcing teams operate. If you are passionate about supply chain, technology, and operational excellence, this is the opportunity for you.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • RFQ Development & Pricing Analytics: Build structured RFQ packages for competitive bidding, compile technical requirements, coordinate with internal stakeholders, and organize supplier responses for comparative analysis. Log and track supplier pricing data, identify cost trends, and support the team in evaluating cost competitiveness across commodity categories. Analytical outputs directly inform sourcing decisions and negotiation strategies.
  • Lead Time Evaluation & Supplier Quoting: Gather and analyze lead time data across our current supplier base, identify supply chain gaps or risks, and help develop actionable recommendations. Assist in reviewing supplier quotes to ensure alignment with cost targets, delivery requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Quality Monitoring via ProTrack: Utilize ProTrack -- our supplier quality and project tracking platform -- to log quality-related data, monitor open issues, and support the team in maintaining accurate supplier quality records. Track non-conformances, support corrective action follow-ups, and ensure quality performance metrics are current and accessible for team review.
  • Supplier Management & Governance: Assist in maintaining supplier scorecards, supporting compliance tracking activities, and contributing to supplier governance initiatives including ESG and Sedex-related programs. Help maintain supplier contract documentation and support performance reviews against established agreements.
  • AI Integration & Operational Research: Engage with AI-powered tools and intelligent agents being deployed within our sourcing operations. Support the team in researching and piloting AI applications that streamline supplier discovery, RFQ automation, market intelligence gathering, and data summarization. Identify opportunities where automation or AI can reduce manual effort, accelerate cycle times, and improve the quality of sourcing insights.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Global Sourcing Summer Intern will contribute to five core project areas over the course of the 10โ€“12-week program:

1. RFQ Analytics & Pricing Database: Build and maintain a structured pricing log across key commodity categories, develop RFQ packages for active sourcing events, and produce a comparative bid analysis report with cost-saving recommendations.

2. Lead Time Assessment: Conduct a systematic review of lead times across the current supplier base, benchmark against industry standards, and deliver a risk-tiered summary with recommended mitigation actions.

3. ProTrack Quality Tracking: Support daily quality data entry and issue tracking in ProTrack, assist in closing open corrective actions, and contribute to a monthly quality performance summary.

4. Supplier Governance Support: Assist in updating supplier scorecards, tracking ESG/Sedex compliance status, and maintaining contract documentation for the active supplier portfolio.

5. AI & Automation Research: Research and pilot at least one AI tool or intelligent agent applicable to sourcing operations (e.g., RFQ automation, supplier discovery, market intelligence). Present findings and a recommended implementation roadmap to the sourcing leadership team at the conclusion of the internship.

Successful Candidate Profile:

Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Data Analytics, or a closely related field.
  • Rising Juniors and Seniors are preferred.

Experience & Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required;
  • Familiarity with ERP platforms (SAP) or sourcing tools (Ariba, Coupa) is a meaningful advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and adapt quickly to shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrated interest in leveraging AI and automation to improve business processes.

  • Over 40% of our directors and above are woman.
  • 57% of the Executive Team (meaning VP and above) are female, black, Hispanic or Asian/Islander.
