Job description

We're seeking a hands-on Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 ERP System Admin focused on functional/system administration and Production stability. The role centers on operations, incident response, configuration, integrations (AIF), batch orchestration, security, and reporting-while coordinating with developers and vendors for code-level fixes. Coding is incidental; you should be able to interpret logs and X++ stack traces and shepherd fixes through change management.
Key Responsibilities

Production Operations & System Administration
  • Own day-to-day uptime, performance, and integrity of AX 2012 Production and key lower environments.
  • Administer AOS instances, Batch server configuration/queues/classes, and AIF inbound/outbound ports and endpoints (NetTCP/HTTP/FILE/MSMQ).
  • Monitor and tune SSRS execution (with DBA), manage report deployments, and track job failures.
  • Maintain security (roles/duties/privileges), Segregation of Duties checks, and perform periodic access reviews.
  • Manage print management, workflow execution, and Management Reporter (or replacement) stability.
  • Oversee environment refreshes, backup/restore coordination (database/model store), and nonprod data masking.
Functional Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Serve as the primary contact for Finance, Supply Chain, and Retail super-users; translate issues into reproducible defects or configuration requests.
  • Drive root cause analysis for recurring incidents; implement configuration changes or coordinate code fixes with developers/ISVs.
  • Execute minor changes via configuration, security updates, SSRS parameters/datasets, and DIXF where appropriate-avoiding netnew code when feasible.
  • Support period close and peak events with playbooks, capacity planning, and stability checkpoints.
Incident, Problem & Change Management
  • Lead P1/P2 incident response for AX Production; run triage bridges, business communications, and postincident RCAs.
  • Operate a pragmatic change process for noncode changes; coordinate modelstore and SSRS deployments with dev/infra.
  • Maintain runbooks for common failures (stuck batches, AIF retries, orphaned sessions, blocked SQL, SSRS timeouts).
  • Track MTTA/MTTR, batchwindow adherence, and integration success rates; drive down repeat incidents.
Integrations, Data & Monitoring
  • Administer AIF services/ports, schemas, adapters, and message pipelines; manage retries and errorhandling.
  • Coordinate with EDI/iPaaS partners and internal devs on interface defects; validate endtoend data flows.
  • Implement proactive monitoring (AOS health, batch throughput, AIF queues, SSRS job status) with alerting and dashboards.
  • Maintain interface catalogs, environment topology diagrams, and RACI for support.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as a trusted partner to business superusers; set expectations, communicate ETAs, and improve operational hygiene.
  • Coordinate vendors/ISVs as needed (addons, licenses, hotfixes).
About Music & Arts

The first Music & Arts was located in a small house in Bethesda, MD and run by founder Benjamin O'Brien. When Music & Arts opened its doors in 1952, we offered printed music, music lessons, dance lessons, and art supplies. Ben decided shortly after opening his business that he wanted to focus on music to better serve his customers -- a decision that remains intact to this day.

In 2005, Music & Arts joined forces with American Music to become the largest band and orchestra instrument retailer in the United States. Based in Frederick, MD, Music & Arts is now part of the Guitar Center enterprise and comprises 200+ retail stores, 120+ educational representatives, and 300+ affiliate locations.

To join our band you will need the following experience:

  • 4-6+ years of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 (R2/R3) Production support in a highly customized environment.
  • Proficiency in AX administration: AOS, Batch, AIF configuration, SSRS deployment, security model (roles/duties/privileges), and workflows.
  • Strong troubleshooting with Event Viewer, AX Trace Parser, SQL Profiler (read/trace), and AX logs; ability to interpret X++ stack traces and partner with developers for fixes.
  • Solid SQL Server literacy (read/modify TSQL for support), Windows Server/IIS fundamentals, and Active Directory-backed authentication.
  • Experience with ITILlite processes (Incident/Problem/Change), runbook creation, and oncall.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps/TFS or Git for change tracking and release coordination.
  • Bachelor's in CS/IS or equivalent experience.
