Job Description: Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team. The ICU RN is responsible for providing comprehensive, evidence-based care to critically ill patients with complex medical and surgical conditions. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and proficiency with the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for critically ill patients.

  • Continuously monitor patient status and respond promptly to changes in condition.

  • Administer medications, blood products, and treatments in accordance with physician orders and hospital policies.

  • Operate and monitor advanced life-support equipment, including mechanical ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and CRRT equipment as applicable.

  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient care plans.

  • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes using the Epic EMR system.

  • Participate in rapid response and code blue situations as required.

  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions when appropriate.

  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards.

  • Serve as a patient advocate while promoting quality care and positive patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent ICU nursing experience in an acute care hospital.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

  • Current experience using the Epic electronic medical record (EMR) system.

  • Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and time management skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification.

  • Experience caring for patients requiring ventilator management, vasoactive infusions, and hemodynamic monitoring.

  • Experience with CRRT, ECMO, or advanced critical care therapies.

  • Trauma, Neuro ICU, Cardiovascular ICU, or Surgical ICU experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move patients throughout the shift.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance when necessary.

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments as required.
