What is a part time med spa employee?

A part-time med spa employee is a professional who works at a medical spa, usually for fewer hours than a full-time staff member. Their duties can include assisting with skincare treatments, scheduling appointments, providing customer service, and supporting licensed practitioners like nurses or estheticians. Part-time employees may work evenings or weekends to accommodate client schedules, and they often help ensure smooth spa operations while maintaining a relaxing environment. Requirements for the position can vary, but a background in beauty, wellness, or healthcare is often preferred.

What are the typical responsibilities and expectations for a part time med spa professional?

As a part-time med spa professional, you can expect to perform a variety of client-focused tasks such as conducting consultations, assisting with non-invasive procedures (like facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments), and providing pre- and post-treatment care instructions. You may also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, updating client records, and supporting full-time team members during busy periods. Flexibility is often required to accommodate evening or weekend shifts, and strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with both medical staff and clients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time med spa professional?

To thrive as a Part Time Med Spa professional, you need a background in aesthetics or nursing, knowledge of skin care treatments, and any relevant state licensure or certification. Familiarity with tools such as laser devices, skincare product lines, and scheduling or client management software is typically required. Outstanding customer service, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills set top performers apart. These competencies ensure safe, high-quality treatments and create a positive client experience, which is vital for client retention and spa reputation.

The ideal candidate seeks a career in medical esthetics and is passionate about this field. • Handle client questions and concerns with exceptional professionalism, courtesy, and empathy.
  • Sales & Service Expectations:
    • Actively recommend and sell retail skincare products to support client goals, striving to meet quarterly service and retail sales targets.
  • Operations & Sanitation:
    • Maintain strict cleanliness, sanitation, and sterilization standards in compliance with California state law and practice policies.
    • Prepare, clean, sanitize, and restock treatment rooms efficiently; properly manage equipment and product usage to support cost controls.
    • Accurately complete medical records, client charts, and clinical notes in the software system in a timely manner.
    • Assist colleagues with rooming and prepping patients when needed, working independently or collaboratively as required.
  • Professional Development & Team Contribution:
    • Regularly attend and participate in staff meetings, internal and off-site trainings, and external continuing education courses.
    • Maintain a positive, solution-oriented attitude that enhances team morale and practice operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Licensure: Active California Esthetician license (Required).
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of active esthetician experience in a spa or clinical setting (Required); 2+ years of retail sales experience (Preferred).
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of standard and advanced skincare techniques, skin typing, and clinical protocols.
    • Strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality guidelines.
    • Excellent communication, listening, and basic computer/EHR software skills.
    • Exceptional time management, punctuality, and attention to detail.
